So you cant use the high gain channel?? Bummer!!!

Each of the modules you posted can be modified to have it access the higher gain channel.

Jeff,

What about the single channel versions of those modules announced at NAMM?

What about them...got Twin, COD, SL2 and EG5. Build time is 3 weeks.

I meant that instead of getting the dual channel and using channel A, original poster could get one of the singles instead. Are the singles based on channel A or B of its dual brother?

Jeff .just a question ..lets say I wanted and EG5 mid voice .but with the less compressed feel of the SL2 ..can that be done easily ??

Turn down the gain and you get less compression.

But then there's not enough gain

im confident that the eg5 will still have some gain .I think EWS says he runs 10.o cloock

There is still quite a lot still at 9 or 10 o'clock.

Well, I was partially being sarcastic. I don’t have an EG5 but for a short time I had a UXL that Frank said was basically the same thing as the EG5.

I found with that module when I turned down the treble to where it wasn’t piercing I didn’t like the feel anymore and when I turned down the gain to where it wasn’t over compressed, It didn’t have the gain I wanted. I always went back to the SL2.

Still the way you guys rave about the EG5 makes me want to try one. I was never able to get it confirmed that the UXL I had was the exact same circuitry as the EG5 and I suspect they're not.

Ive found between 10 and 11 to be the sweet spot for gain on EG5. You might have to adjust for your pickups, but that is the spot where there is still lots of gain but before it starts compressing heavily. Theres always that threshold on any high gain amp. You just have to find where you get the best compromise of punch and saturation. But you cannot use tons and tons of gain and expect to have lots of punch. There is a direct relationship between gain amount and compression.
