Will Renegade do metal?

hi guys, I really really liked what I heard...the size/features are also great, but I'm not sure if the amp will do hi-gain ala Metallica/MEgadeth...... for a moment there in the video of NAMM where Jeff is playing and Bruce is dialing the amp, Bruce seem to activate a "boost" of something for leads but he turned it up too quickly and I could hear some rythm tones with it on....

so...will it do metal?

Without the boost Id say not. With the boost or an overdrive pedal then possibly. Like I said in another thread, unless someone tells me otherwise, I think its a set volume and gain boost. I dont think theres a knob to tweak it. So, youd have to run your clean channel boosted as well to match or just bump the volume to match.

Master 2 is it's own knob. When you hit the button on the foot switch it engages the master 2. It gives you the ability to have it be however loud you want!

I thought I heard in one of the Premier Guitar videos that the "boost" was really like a second master volume that could be used to boost solos, but I'd have to go back and check to be sure.

Ah... Jeff beat me to it.

Then Id say yes! So Jeff, there are seperate volumes for each channel and seperate masters that are activated by the boost switch?

Also, is the amount of gain set in the boost or can that be adjusted as well?

alright then, but my question still maintains.... does it have enough gain (tight enought) to get some MEtallica tones out of it?

With the boost yes. You'll probably want to use the 6L6s in the tube mix for the most "Mesa" ish tone since thats pretty much Metallicas thing. But that said it does not sound like a Rectifier. Its definitely a more British sound.

oh don't worry I'm not into Rectos that much, I mentioned metallica for the "tightness" gain structure..... not for the Mesaish tones.....

when you say the "boost" it means the Renegade's own built in boost correct? we're not talking about an external boost pedal? I'm not into throwing anything else at my amps for boost.....

Clarification: Renegade
2 Channels, each w/ Vol, Gain, EQ, 10/50 watt selector, Tight/Bright switches, individual reverb control and tube mix control
Master Section: 2 switchable master volumes and density and presence controls

Metal? Up to the user. No mid cut feature on Renegade.

alright....

still like to know. The Egnater seminar head for example can do metal becuase it has enough gain and enough tightness for it.

You seem to have a pretty solid right hand technique...I think you'd be able to manage it  ...if not, an SD-1 isn't too much of a stretch..

thank you JDK :D I'm not really into boosting amps.

Plus I'll not get it for "metal" I already have the Vh4/Einstein, but it's nice to know you can throw some metallica at it and it'll deliver.

I'm getting it either way!

With the amps built in boost, it has enough gain for metal. The voicing is more hard rock but maybe it will work for you for metal.

Im pretty sure that the built in boosts arent gain, they are master volume.

Interesting. It felt much more aggressive and compressed to me with the boost on.

I noticed that too in the vid. both vids, the Renegade "prototype vid" from a couple of months ago, and the one where Jeff is playing in NAMM..... seems like the amp got "heavier" and gainier with the "boost" on.

It's a volume thing you felt.
