Been waiting on a Grendel Dead Room for some time now (actually got an email 2 weeks ago saying it had shipped, but it still hasn't, and I can't get the guy to respond to my emails or voice mails :gethim: :gethim: not sure WTF is up)

Anywho, since I don't have it yet, and at this point not sure if I ever will, I've been trying all kinds of weird ass stuff so that I can record my M4 whilst the babes are sleeping, and this is my latest one.....

I tried running my M4 output straight into the line input of my POD xt Pro, then straight out of the xt Pro into a Vintech x73 mic pre and Purple MC77 comp, then into my computer - no power amp, no cab. I turned off the amp simulation in the xt Pro, but left the cab and mic simulation on. It sounded really really good!! Not as good as a mic'd cab o'course, but better than the Palmer I used to have.

Anyway, I just want to make sure that this will not blow up my M4. I don't think it will - I figure this should be no different from the M4's perspective than if it were going to a line input on an FX unit, and then the FX unit was connected to a power amp - the M4 never sees the power amp in that scenario either, but I want to make sure....cuz if my M4 blows up, I'm gonna have to shoot myself

Jeff??? Anyone???

Thanks!

M4 is in no danger.

The Pod is the only thing that would worry me, since the M4 has a fairly hot line level output. I'm assuming the pod wants a <1 volt high Z instrument signal coming in.

As long as the front of the pod isn't clipping, you should be totally fine.

Thanks. That's what I figured too. The POD xt Pro has an actual line input in the back (it's the rack version) in addition to the front panel instrument in, so I'm figuring it should be OK. It actually works pretty good as an FX box with the amp and cab simulations turned off!

Hmm, now the rack pod interests me.

How is the midi control on it?

Can it send its own program change commands on more than one channel??

I'm not sure about the MIDI. I just have it hooked to the thru on my M4 so that I can use the same footswitch I'm using with my M4 to change programs.

The rack xt Pro is going for pretty good prices on eBay now that they are coming out with the rack X3 Pro in the fall. It's pretty versatile - I've used it as a straight FX box connected in parallel with my M4 using a Suhr mini-mix, and I've connected it straight into my VHT power amp to my cab, and now using it as a speaker simulator box for my M4, as well as direct in of course.

The factory presets kind of blow, but the amp models themselves are really pretty good, especially the high gain stuff. Since my M4 is loaded mostly with mid-gainers, it's been pretty cool to have the POD running the high gain models.
