Hello All, new member trying to make a decision (was a long time rack / Mesa guy).. I have been reading and listening (you tube) nothing local to check out...Trying to decide to jump into a Herbert, been bouncing my decision between bogner / Engl / Diezel ... What originally drove me to diezel is i heard a few clips of the texas channel on the einstein and it blew me away that was one of tones i was looking for, I am also searching for a really natural sounding clean channel... How is the herberts? most of he clips i hear are of the 3rd channel... was trying to stay in a certain budget and was feeling the einstein fit the bill but the more i hear the herbert the the more i love that 3rd channel ... RIght now i have a randall rm100 with a bogner 2x12os (white), Safe to asssume the diezel will pair up nice with the bogner cab?... I do gig, mostly covers everthing from stevie / jimmie to A7x and machine head i am pretty sure it will cover all that but how are the bedroom lvls? I recently had to do a down size move and live in a town home (concrete walls) any crazy difference in tone from say 9 oclock to 1 oclock ... I am sorry if i am rambling just trying to pu some thoughts that have been rolling around in my head down... I see thre is a MKII out if, one where to buy a used MKI could it be brough up to MKII?? Can i assume i can get a herbert in white?

Thanks for letting me ramble..
dave

Mk I can not be upgraded to Mk II.

You can buy new in white, or possibly buy just a white headshell. Although I don't know if they still make Mk I headshells.

Herbert gets close to Einstein Texas but won't nail it like einey does.
Eienstein will get close to Herbert chan 3 but won't nail it like Herbie does.

Einstein has a more "natural" clean sound. Herbie's is more hifi and modern but both very nice.

I personally prefer Einstein, but that's because I play a lot of blues/classic rock type stuff. I do play heavy but prefer vh4 for that. You really can't go wrong with either amp. I recommend buying based on the features you need. Herbert does midi has 3 channels and plenty power. Einstein is cheaper and 2 channel and also comes in 50 watts or combo versions. All Diezels sound great at bedroom volumes. Your bogner cab will work fine.

Good luck and keep us up to date!

With the covers you've mentioned, I think the Einy might be a good fit... Just my 2 cents.

And don't forget about the nastiness Ola can get out of his Einstein...

Thanks ! Let me ask this question to the Herbert owners... what made you go with the herbert over the Einstein? and hello Mr Diezel Your amps RAWK !

Mid-cut which makes the amp very flexible, midi and the very easy handling.

Herbert does brutal metal like no other. That's going to be the main answer. People keep saying it's more flexible sound wise and I dont get it. It is more flexible feature wise though. The Einstein nails more sounds than herbie for me. It's not that herbie can't do them and do them very well. Einstein can compete straight up with an SLO at it's own game... and I like the Einstein better at that.. It can also do bluesy breakup better than most any amp out there.. And it's killer with metal.. Herbie has einey beat in brutal liquid metal, hifi cleans and some like the high gain solo better. It's really just preference man. If you're into more modern sounds the herbie slays. More vintage: einey.

thanks all... now to find some pricing and the possibilty of getting one in white...

Dave,
You lucky dog! Do you realize that you live next to one of the few US distributors, and only Southeast distributor, for Diezel products? Check out Extreme Guitars in West Boca/Parkland http://www.extreme-guitars.com/. And check out their inventory of Herberts and VH4's (to see pics scroll a third the way down http://www.extreme-guitars.com/pics.html. They also have some of the most reasonable prices you will find http://www.guitar-boutique.com/diam.html.

You can A/B every amp/cabinet combo that you listed in your initial post!

The Einstein wasn't available when I got my Herbie i think. I heard Richie Sambora use one and a few other guys at the time use both the VH4 and herbie. I was hooked! I was lucky as a guitar store in the UK got one in within a month of me getting GAS for one. That was about 6 years ago and i have never had a problem with mine. Such an awesome amp.
I remember seeing a vid on the old diezel website of a guy playing the solo to Extreme "get the funk out"on an einstein, it sounds awesome. I think his name was alex, great player and made that einstein sing
