I was hearing things I've never heard. I was playing like I've never played. I was getting all of these awesomely nasty overtones, but it was still smooth. It was loud and slightly bright, but not harsh at all. Putting the guitar up to the grill yielded the most musical, unreal feedback I've ever heard. I felt like it could have been the intro to an album.

The bitey mojo of the ceramic blue dog fits the smoothness of the IE-4 like a glove.

I want a quad of blue dogs now for a 4x12.

BTW, this one was undoped and mounted in a Pacific partial open back, compact 1x12. It was loud as hell too.

No kidding? I almost pulled the trigger on buying one of those the other day. Still think about laoding one into my semi-open back Mojo Tone 1X12 cab. Thanks for the tip.

You'll be glad you did.

I A/B'ed the Blue Dog with an EV Force in the exact same model cab.

It was like night and day. The EV was dull, squishy, and weird. Totally different/boring response.

THe BLue Dog is like a revelation.

Yo GS-

I'm with you on the Weber Blue Dog ceramic....it's a great speaker. I've got one in a Port City 2-12" OS cab- along with a EVM 12L. It packs a serious whallop!

The Blue Dog/Silver Bell combo is supposed to be outstanding in a 212 or 412.

Yup, the silver and blue combo is like British heaven- the best of Vox and Marshall in one cab.

can you mix lets say a alnico blue with a ceramic silver?

or would speaker sensitivity differences make on louder than the other?

So...Guitarslinger...we have nearly identical tastes on most everything amp / preamp related.

So...knowing you like G12T75s ....and hate V30s.... I have been trying to figure out what speakers to put in my Mod50 1x12 combo (with a custom made Mojo fully closed back instead of 2/3 closed) and the custom made Mojo 1x12 sealed cabinet to match my Mod50. (I just never really dug the ported oversized 1x12 for my tastes).

Would you recommend this speaker for that? I want a good all around speaker that sounds great w/ the COD for blues, the SL2 for rock / soloing, and to be used w/ my EG5 and such for practice. What would recommend? Right now I have a G12K100 in there right now, which sounds great for the heavy stuff (and the clean stuff too), but I wanted something totally different, since I have a 2x12 cab loaded w/ G12K100s. I'm about ready to get a Eggie TM 2x12 and replace one of the Elite 80s w/ a G12T75. So I'll have a 2x12 w/ K100s, one 2/ CL80 / T75 combo. Just want to have a fair amount of tonal options!

Thoughts?
Eric

I don't know where to find sens. ratings for Webers, but I find, it's usually not as big of a deal as everyone says.

It would probably sound killer. Lots of people at TGP mix the ceramic and alnico webers.

Which one did you guys get ... the 50 watter?

You know what, I have two Cer Blue dogs mounted right now. I never checked the wattage. I guess I should find out for tonal and handling reasons.

Weber says, "Same model = higher wattage = warmer tone. lower wattage = brighter"

Good question.

I have been playing relatively dark stuff through my blue dog. (IE-4, Rivera TBR3, JJ E34L's) But, the cab is pretty damn bright. It's a SUPER compact 3/4 open back 1X12.

Bottom line = It's a bright speaker. It has a sizzle similar to modern G12M GB's. It has a similar punchy midrange to modern G12H30's. HOWEVER, It still sounds musical, and not grating like most Celestions I've owned.

If it wasn't 20 till midnight, I would try my SL2 and EG5 through it. I guess it will have to wait until tomorrow.

Once again, HOWEVER, since I think it rocks, I'm guessing you would at least appreciate the tone. It totally lacks the ugliness that makes me hate the V30. The cab in which my Blue Dog is mounted came with a Hellatone 60. The Hella 60 sounded just like any other V30. It didn't have the magical smoothness that should come with its pre-breaking-in.

Let's just say, I wouldn't play The Absence on a Blue Dog, but I would crank my SL Ch B through it with some delay and play some blazing solos that rip. If I found a cheap quad of Blue Dogs, I would try them in a 1960B and probably be thrilled. ;) It's mojoey as hell for cleans too!

I say try one in your combo!

I am curious to know what wattage of speaker you did get (once you figure out how to tell). Might get me the 75 watter or something, which would make it a little less bright given what Ted says on his website at least.

I hear ya on the Hellatone 60Ls. I have some of the at home that I tried that I need to sell. I had the same issues w/ them as you did. At least Dave doesn't overcharge for them. Same price as a normal V30.

Maybe I'll just get a silver bell and blue dog...put one in the 1x12 combo..and one in the 1x12 extension cab!

Sounds like a plan

That said, Webers take a lot of breaking in (I THINK. IMO)

They sound stiff out of the box, unlike CL80's, BR80's, EVM12L's, etc.

That's good to know. But I can typically tell a good speaker even if it's not fully broken in. What frequencies it has, what type of tone to expect. They just get better and better with age ;).

So yeah,

I was getting some major cone cry with my EG5 today

Looks like I'll have to get some dope for this.

However, I'm even more convinced I want a 4x12 loaded with Blue Dogs.

It sounded amazing with the EG 3/4. Like they were made for each other.

So you ever figure out what wattage that speaker was??? I would always dope a speaker, since I play mostly high gain stuff.

No, it's front mount, and i'd have to unscrew the grill.

I can probably check tomorrow,.
