Xotic Pedals?????

Hey guys,

I love my BB pedal a lot into my Bassman module, love it! Thought of trying others, Fulltone OCD and others but I can't imagine better.

Now, I contacted Xotic and it was said the AC is a touch fatter, with less gain and has a touch more mids than the BB. Has anyone the AC pedal? I am thinking of grabbing the AC! With the AC and BB on my board, I'll have mucho flavors and with the lower gain of the AC, might be sweet on top of my gainier modules.

THANKS!

Rich

Rich,

I have the AC booster. It is more akin to a Tube Screamer. I really dig it in front of the VX module ch b or SL. On other modules, I think it sounds fizzy. The BB is warmer sounding to me. The AC has the upper mid bump which gives it a janglier tone.

That's interesting, thanks. when I contacted Xotic they said it is a warmer, fatter sound than the BB and said more like a tube screamer, great for solos.

There were 2 versions of the AC booster, and older one and a newer one. It could depend on the version too. that's probably what the difference is here.

So, which is the warmer?

Warmer could mean a lot of things. I would say the BB is tighter and more upper mid and bight. The AC was mushy to me especially in the low end. It would sound really good with a tight bright amp and has nice sag to it, but if you're amp already is doing that = mush. If I had to say which one is warmer I'd have to say it's the AC.

Might just be my rig.

I guess I should explain. I like the BB a lot for sitting on top of my Bassman and sometimes other modules but usually it seems like too much gain on top of the SL2 when playing at high volumes.

I wanted a more tube screamer type pedal that had less gain, a slight mid boost, warm, natural like the BB is with the Egnaters but will not only work for lead but rhythm as well. I want to be able to use a Plexi type module and run the TS type pedal or AC for a George Lynch type tone but for some rhythm as well so it has to have enough lows....not just all TS mids like some.

I have been checking out a bunch, Cusack Screamer Phanton Overdrive, Keeley TS9DX Boss Monte Allums mods, Sparkle Drive was nice but sounded too polite to me and lacked some lows for rhtyhm. Then again, the Eggie sounds so good stock, maybe this ais a bad idea. I see guys I grew up loving like Lynch using TS type pedals all the time into Marshalls and other amps and see Steve Vai using multiple Keeley TS pedals into great amps so to me that kind of proves, even though you may have a sick sounding amp - the TS pedals can still add a lot! It is just toughfinding the right one.
