I love the stk clean channel but whats the difference with the 101b vs 20th clean channel? Thanks for any info.

I didn't like the boominess of stock clean channel, so I modded mine replacing 1st cathode bypass cap from 22uF to 1uF. Thought about replacing 2nd cathode bypass from 22uF to 10uF like in Shiva, but after I changed PI output caps from 100nF to 22nF I like it as it is now.

Why do You want to mod clean channel? Is it missing sth for You?

Regards, Andy

Not modding, just curious of the difference thanks for the info.

Remove or lower 1nF cap in boost circuit. play with the value. Unfortunately I got only a schem of dirty channels of 20th Ann, don't know nothing about the clean. But a guy who has it says that the clean wasn't tweaked much compared to 101B.

IMO the whole 20th Ann thing is Sozo and Mojo Dijon tone caps, tweaked poweramp (especialy Excursion) and Classic filtering. I noticed big tonal improvement after changing tone caps in my 101B from stock WIMA to TAD/Mojo Dijon mustard clones.

just love to tweak, its a disease
Hear You Jamme, feel totally the same here :). Every piece of my gear is somewhat tweaked, the amps, the guitars. It is total addiction ;).

Thanks for the info, I had the classic XTC for a short time and liked the clean channel better then the 101b (they sound the same now IMHO with the .68 which was in the classic) On the classic xtc, on the clean channel, the only thing I saw different was the .68 cathode 1st stage, other then that, all else seemed stk (except the power section). I'm very happy with the amp now
Stock 101B clean, which is basically BlackFace copy wasn't good for me too. After lowering 1st bypass cap (it was one of the first mods I done to my XTC) I started to like it much better too. I like it even more after further mods, especially after lowering PI output caps and removing 470pF Excursion cap. The whole feel of poweramp after those mods caused better clean sound too.

Regards, Andy :)

By 470pf cap I am reffering to the Excursion cap in poweramp. I decided to remove it from pcb and put it on the dpdt switch, alongside with 4n7 cap. But I don't use neither of those now. In place of 1M L Excursion resistor I installed 1M linear pot, by which I set the amount of -fb. Currently I have it in position, which gives me ~175K total resistance, which is the value used in JCM800. This mod affects whole amp, which responses quicker in all channels, and is a bit more aggressive too.

Regards, Andy.

great thanks

Great! Go for it then and let us know about the results :).

I'm really happy with what I have. I have to play it out with the band now before I really know. At home and out live is so different. This is the best amp I ever had, it feels so freakin good to play makes me dig in real hard (sorry over the top) Thanks again

changed the bright cap values to 150 and 1000 pf for channel 2 and 3
How is the dirty sound after that change? I mean: more or less agressive, compressed, open... Any clips available? :)

Regards, Andy :)

Stk values are the way to go Bogner knows what he's doing I don't want to mess with this amp awesome tone and feel.

Hear Ya... so those are not mods for me ;). Lowering gain in my amp it is opposite of what I am after. But glad You like Your amp better now.

And yes, it was me who told You that Your bright caps values are the one that are present in 20th Ann XTC.

Regards, Andy :)

I think this is the vintage modern mode on the 20th xtc right? Love this amp.

I tried that mod before the 20th Ann XTC was invented. There were roumors that it was present in early Classics.

I didn't like this mod, difference was too subtle and the cap was compressing the sound too much, making it "distant". So I have returned to modified Marvel Mod (.68uF cap instead of 1uF in Cameron voicing).

Regards, Andy :)

Bogner did a great job with all the little adjustments he added IMHO. I like plexi mode, I'm just a lower gain, old guy, with hearing loss.
