Hi all, thinking about adding a 101b to the collection, but I've noticed there's a wide price range ($1800 - $2700) on the used ones. Are there different version that are more sought after? It just seems like the prices are all over the place... very confusing. And of course, I'm paranoid that there's something wrong with the cheaper ones

Some say the white chassis models ('94-'96) are missing something due to the cab switching circuitry. I have had an '05 and a '97. The '05 had the A/AB and individual channel out adjustments. I never used either, after trying to like the Class A. The '97 that I currently own is before they added gain/compression to the RED channel and also has the Mercury Magnetic transformers. It sounds better than my '05 did. Not night and day different, but it has more low end and the RED is more open. Great amp, every incarnation, but those are my thoughts.

EDIT: One thing I will add is the 20th is a beast of an amp if you can afford the extra cost. I had a 6L6 model that I'm still bitter about selling. Just a monster amp.

Ok thanks, I'll brush up some more on the versions. I just wasn't sure if people were pricing them high in hopes to cash in.

I bought a brand new '07 that was a POS from the get go. Footswitch wouldn't select channel 2 out of the box. The high input jack broke after a month. Never sounded that good. Started to act up after a couple yrs. My certified and very reliable amp tech sd some of the traces were bad. He fixed some, but sd he called bogner for some support and they wouldn't help him. Got rid of it.

Bought a used '12 for $2200. It's the best one I've ever heard. I swear they retweeked the more recent ones. Previous ones have to have the presence real high if on loose excursion and were much more finicky. This one has plenty at 2:00. Really, really good one. Maybe I got lucky, but I couldn't be more happy with it.

I have an older 01 and I completely love it! Great amp! The 20th is amazing as well!

Great time to pick one up - prices have never been lower. Ive had a couple of different year 101b's I think they're all pretty consistent sound wise and never had any trouble with any of them.

Funny, I've been trying to sell my XTC Classic and it's been awful.
Such a great amp and I can't get an honest buyer to give me what it's worth.
Horrible time to sell an XTC....
