Got this Bogner XTC 101b delivered to me yesterday from Rob @ TM's. Got to mess around with it for an hour or so. Damn what a nice amp. The Plexi channel is really cool and channel 3 is the Bogner I know. Lot's of little tweaks and voicings on it. Can't believe it took me this long to go XTC. Loads of versatility in the amp for sure. With the multi-colored LED's up front, this thing screams metal grill so we can see the tubes as well. This wheat grill has got to go!

Shit, the dilemma now is there is just too damn many choices of what to play! I can easily see the XTC and the Friedman's becoming my core amps. Maybe be some other good stuff for sale soon. Rob is going to help move some of it for me.

that is good to know.....from a fellow gear whore! this is damn sure a keeper. where does the 20th surpass the 101b? i am digging the plexi channel on here and the normal channel two. channel 3 is up in the uberschall territory. which brings me to the next dilemma

having to redo my man cave today too. putting a lot the heads away and probably getting ready to sell a few. keeping the marsha and naked, the bogner, my old jerry modded jmp and a couple mesa's. everything else is probably on the exodus.

Yep....

Steve,

Congratulations you have a really nice collection of awesome amps. Plus you're getting a Cameron soon!!!

How do you feel the Bogner compares to the Marsha?

Thats my dilemma for my next amp. I currently have a Diezel Einstein, and can't decide which to get. Plus I can't really try them out down in Argentina... I know I won't be getting a Cameron because of the delay, but I am interested in the Suhr PT-100, the XTC 101b or 20th and the Friedman Marsha.

Congrats, and keep on rockin!

If you are keeping the Einy, I would go for a Marsha with all the bells and whistles.

Gorgeous amp.

I LOVE my 20thA - it's going to stay in my family for life... This I know.

I love the 101b's. I'd like another one. Congrat's Steve

Would you guys say that the 101b is one of the more 'organic'...'brown' sounding amps that bogner puts out?
I don't have a lot of experience with friedmans stuff, does he do this better? I was always under the impression that his amps were more inside the marshall idea, I guess I should listen to a few clips

I wouldnt say either is "better". Each has its own flavor and feel. Both are Top shelf amps. My Bogner is very organic feeling and with all the switches I can set it up manyyyyyyyyyyyyyy different ways. If I had to have only one amp the 20th A XTC would be it, VERYYYY FLEXIBLE.

The 20th A is just way too much amp for my needs. I'm simply looking for something in the lines of that mushy organic bogner sound. I don't need to do a lot of channel switching, or any at all really, and I certainly don't want or need to be doing a lot of tinkering, screwing around, once I've hit that sweet spot I want to be at. I know Cantrell is using the Marsha now so maybe that would be my best bet, but I've heard a few great clips of the xtc 101b and it's more or less exactly what I'm looking for. I just want to know from guys who know a lot more on the subject, what they might do in my position.

I have a 100B XTC and just got a Marsha. They are both outstanding amps. The Marsha will do all of the classic tones you've heard on the radio for years, it has the best "feel" of any amp I've played. The Bogner has a lazy feel, is darker, more lower mid focused. ATM I'm leaning toward the Marsha as my favorite. I'm selling/ sold my other amps and I'm done buying amps now.

My Rev 2 fits your description to a T for the most part...Ubers are a little thicker than XTCs, but mine is dialed in right now for most anything from AIC to Van Halen to A7X. Great amp, and they can be found for well under $2K.

You will get the Bogner mushy organic sound if you set it up that way with the 101B (imo).

In this regard the 101B may be a bit overkill for you, you'll be paying for features/options you may never use.

I've actually had my eye on a rev 2 for a long time. I had always thought the xtc's were a little thicker than the ubers so this is good to know! The only clips ive heard of the rev 2 had it equipped with kt88's, is it possible to run el34's in them?

Wow...never heard a Rev 2 with kates, or an original or Rev Blue for that matter...I always thought only the TJ had them? I could be wrong, but to my knowledge, all Ubers came standard with 34s up until the TJ.

Mine is pure el34s!

Well it's sounding like the rev 2 might be on the chopping block for my next purchase.
Do you have any clips bronco?

From my experience, all these will get you "that" Bogner tone:

-Shiva
-XTC 100/101
-Uebershall (more versatile than people think)
-XTC Classic

You might wanna try an XTC Classic if you like a bit more open/organic. I loved the one I tried a few years back.
