XTC and EG5???? Simular?????

Anyone here have an Egnater EG5 and a Randall XTC? from what i hear it is a close match but i havent been able to crank it loud. If so that would mean i could get the XTC sound with out having the randall mod. Chasing tones again .........and maybe selling the XTC.

It's been awhile since I owned an XTC module but I don't recall it having the ballz that the EG5 or that tight bottom,but what the fuck do I know!!!! sorry it's been a rough day

My experience with the XTC was extremely brief. I played it through an RM100 and had a helluva time dialing out the fizz. I say hang loose for another week and see what both camps (Randall/Egnater) have to offer. Randall for sure have some new mods en route.

I already have it. My first Randall Module, I think i will stick with the Egnaters, cant go wrong with dual mods. I don't know if I will sell it or mod it myself. I might do the blue led mod and change some resistors out to more high end ones. I might look for a RM20 head or combo and let my son use it. Hey might change Ch B led to blue on the EG5.

I dont mind buying doubles of modules if there is a mod for them to get them close to another amp that i am looking for. I just dont want to mod my originals.

I have both.

They both sound great, but fairly different.


EG5, ch 2 can be dialed close to the XTC with the gain and treble dialed back, but they really aren't that close.

The EG5 has a much more aggressive nature. brighter, gainer, different.

The XTC is smooth as silk, dark as the night, and a little more forgiving than the EG5, even though it has less gain, IMO.

I have both as well and to me the biggest difference is how they react. The XTC feels like it has that sag to it where the EG5 is tight. Tonally they can be made similar by tweeking the knobs, but the feel of the 2 mods is very different.

+1. The tone is very saggy - too saggy for me. Probably I should get it modded.

Agreed.. I have an Egnater dual ch. SL2, XTC, and EG5. IMO the XTC is closer to SL2 (slightly different voicing). Don't know about the Randall version.

been jam'n with the XTC for awhile today and i like it a little better. I think I might just sell it after I get my other M4 and bug Jeff for a Egnater XTC red channel, once they are caught up after namm and back orders. Im so use to a CH A/Ch B setup and maybe that is why im not in total awl with it. I will run it through my Celestion G12T75 when it gets here for another shot. right now im using a Carvin vintage 12 200w

I'm dropping $$$ on one of Russ' remaining RM4's. I can't resist. I'll be using it for the wet stuff. I was honestly considering an XTC to crack open and f with. I think I'll wait a few days and see what's on the horizon. Come on ENGL!
