Guys,

Recently back to to the Bogner camp and got an XTC 101B. I am really digging this amp across all 3 channels. It is set up with 34's. For those that have owned or own both the 101B and the 20th Anniversary, how do they both compare. I have read a couple reviews about the component differences in the amps, and the 20th being set up with 6L6's. I am having a tough time with clips hearing much variance, channel for channel and in Plexi mode.

1) Any opinions on the 20th and 101B tonal differences?

2) Which cab and speaker choices did you settle on?

Really digging the hell out of the Bogner line again.

Thanks,
Steve

I've had a few 101Bs and have the 20th now. My 20th has el34s though. It is much less compressed, more gain on the blue and red channels. It's alot tighter too. I couldn't play the 101B unless the excursions were set to T, now I like them best on L. I loved the 101B, but the 20th takes it to a whole new level.

Duh, all I had to do was look down a page or two for more posts regarding the subject. Seems everyone is oversold on the 20th.

Dammit, now I want one.......

I have 6L6s in mine with the matching cab w/V30s and luv it. I get a great Fender y clean and Plexi and the red channel are amazing, considering Bogner designed this amp with 6L6s and V30s It has Tones and Growls I never heard out of a 6L6s before. 6L6 on STEROIDS!!! :rawk: I luv my Rev Blue with EL34s and JMP100 with 6550s so im not really bias towards one type of tube. Hell my Mesa MK III has 6L6s and cant get close to the 20th A.

I have a 20th with 34's and have owned a 101b. The 20th is a definite improvement to my ears. It has just enough Marshall bite to blend with the signature Bogner low mids and is much tighter. The clean, even with 34's sounds great - a lot of sparkle. You can now boost the plexi mode and with switches you can cover 101b territory via the more compressed 'Old' style switch, if you so desire. I also really like the Class A mode with the plexi mode for classic rock. The amp definitely lives up to the hype.

Huge gas pains for 20th XTC and a TJ.

Time to thin out the inventory.........

Dude, get the 20thA loaded with EL34's, A/AB switch, and all the other bells and whistles. Secondly, it's really truly MEANT to be pushed through a 4 x V30 cabinet. I was never sold on the V30's and thought they kinda were too chalky and middy, but this amp, with those drivers? TOTALLY different level. Get on with this one before you start jonesing for a TJ. I had a TJ and its panache wore off pretty quickly...this is personal and my story only, but I've had the 20thA now for about 3 months now, and I am STILL amazed with what I can get it to do...and something tells me, this 'discovery' process is going to go on for a long, long time. With the UberTJ - still, terrific amp - but I kinda had it figured out pretty quick, it did 2 things [primarily] very well, and after that, it was kinda done. No more surprises - the EQ was fairly straight up, it sounded bloody vicious, but after about 100 hours of playing, it didn't surprise me anymore. It was like - ya, there it is....again. Same ol' same ol'. Whoohooo. But what it did was AWESOME, it just wasn't really nailin' anything else from this specific awesomeness, if that makes any sense.

The 20thA with EL34's? T O T A L L Y different ballgame.

Score one, IF and when you think you need something else (...  ), then poke around for something else.

Cheers,
V.
