So I have been really dissatisfied with my VTM's tone. Fizz galore. IT was pissing me off.

So I figured it was the tung sol preamp tube in v1. Took it out, and put an old jj i had in there previously.

No more fizz. I sacrificed a little gain but I don't care. The amp sounds much much better.

I won't buy another tung sol tube ever again. But I am sure everyone says the same about jj tubes. personally I like them. I guess the dark characteristics of the tube works well with the vtm, considering how bright that amp is.

I really really like how JJ Electronics ECC83S' work in my Triaxis. It takes away some of the high end and makes it a bit darker sounding. JJs FTW!

I just had a Tung Sol go bad in the V1 of my Mark IV...only a couple weeks old too

Also, if you have an amp that runs on KT66's the Tung Sol are properly constructed and pin 1 will short out the socket.

FWIW you can't go wrong calling Dougs Tubes for help.

I'm not a big fan of JJ's, but I don't understand the hype of the Tung Sol reissues either. I keep trying them hoping that I'm missing something. IMO, they aren't that different from EH 12ax7's. They both sound brittle with excessive high end to me. No warmth at all.

Winged C's, NOS RFT's, and Phillips FTW.

The tung sol basically added WAY too much highs. It sounded fine at low volumes, but once you started to turn up the volume, it was way too much treble that could not be tamed, and the fizz was just terrible.

I really like the jj though. Never tried any NOS tubes in my amp though.

Thats really nice to hear, I find my JCM800 a little to fizzy with the valves I have in it right now and I just bought a full re-tube of JJ's, hopefully it will clear up some of the fizz!

Speaking about Marshalls, those ECC83S' work very well in my JMP-1 too! I re-tubed both of my preamps with those tubes and they are great.

I just retubed my DC-10 a week ago and have a Tung-Sol in V1 and it had a permanent hum, even during playing. Annoying as fuck... I'm just going to go get a random preamp tube just to get rid of the freaking hum. I think Tung-Sols have become complete garbage now. All I hear is they die constantly, add a fuckton of buzz/hum, and are just junk, and now I have experienced it first hand. Never again...

I cant stand the Tung-sols I went through several in a weeks time, one went bad after about 15 minutes of playing in my Mark IV.

Switched to Sovtek 12ax7LPS and never looked back.
