Just opened the box and only had about 15 minutes with it. What is amazing I that I spent the first 10 minutes on the A channel before even checking out B. As soon as I hit the first chord I knew he got it right. The only gripes I ever had about the SL2 were I wanted it a little tighter and more aggressively voiced. This nailed it. They should have called it "B.A.M." for "BadAss Marshall". This really is just like having two awesome Marshalls. One nails the AC/DC and classic rock stuff and the other kicks into high gear for hairband stuff through straight up METAL! I loved that even when the gain was dimed it didn't get farty in the low end.

Well done Jeff.

I am hoping to be joining the modular ranks in a month or so and the more I read about the two channel modules the harder it is to think about a Randall RM4 or RM100. I know that the RM100 can be modded now to accept the two channel modules but I kind of like the look of the Egnater heads and cabs.

Now I just need to keep an eye out for a used M4 or Mod amp.

Eric should get a free module for this :D or a free pick   See ya in a week bro!!!!!!!!!

How does the SL2X compare to the EG3/4 in terms of gain and brightness?

Gain similar...The SL2X has a bit more on tap.

EG3/4 is dark...SL2X isn't. SL2X is very similar to the SL2 in brightness. The upper mids were bumped from the SL2 to get that growl, bark, and snarl....the low end was tightened up...It has a really good clarity and presence to it.

The EG3/4 is definitely a more "smokey" module...really warm..really thick...with a tapered top end for sure.

I love love love my GnR aka SLX module!!

But I'm having a hard time dialing in settings to use Ch. B for leads. To my ears the B sounds a lot more scooped than A, to where I need to really crank up the B volume to be heard in the mix... but even then it doesn't really punch through. I've ended up using A for medium-high gain rhythm parts and boosting it with a TS808 in front for leads, then using B for higher gain rhythm stuff. I'm playing with Bass ~ 11-12, Mid ~ 1, High ~ 10-11. My primary ax is a Tom Anderson hollow drop top, so I know my mids and attack are going to be slightly suppressed, but I hear the same thing with my solid bodies. Is is just me hearing this? I really wish I could throw a separate EQ curve in there for each channel!

I use similar settings but I have the bright switch on 1. It gives it more sizzle in the highs. Mine cuts just as good as the stock SL2 did. Try that. Almost all of my module have the bright on 1. It just make the sound more in you face and aggressive. Seems to add some gain, or makes if feel like it has more gain.

Yep, I've noticed the same. So, I use B for rhythm and A for solos.

That worries me because I use A and B of the SL2 for different purposes. I use A for my classic rock/rock type stuff and B for hard rock up to metal. I use my rack compressor/EQ, etc for lead boosts. So, I should be OK....but there ar times I like it raw without the loop effects or boost and I want channel B to stand on its own.

So, if you have the mids at noon, channel B lacks mids???

I have no trouble being heard in a 2 guitar band with the mids at noon on either channel.

I honestly have to scratch my head at ppl saying there's more of a "mid scoop." Jeff didn't cut mids at all. He just tweaked the upper mids to be more present in the module. I think its a "percieved" mid scoop, because there is more mids there than before.

I have NO problems soloing w/ ChB. It sounds amazing!!! I use ChA as a medium gain crunch, and ChB as my balls out tone, and solo tone.

I run my module w/ Bass off...Bright off...Bass and mids at noon...and treble at 1-2 oclock. Gain on ChA at 10 oclock...Gain on ChB at 1-2 oclock.

That's how I would run it!

Sounds like you had the GnR mod to three of your modules - EG3/4, SL2 and XTC.
