I want to say that I'm really sorry :( because I saw many threads here about the same question but I guess they don't answer my questions fully. Well, no one is the same or has same taste.

I'm looking for tubes for Herbie. I want to buy MK1 and I managed to find information that in this particular amp tubes (both preamp and poweramp) are almost dead, so if I decide to buy it it'll need retubing ASAP.

I'm "Marshall like" type of guy when it comes to the sound of an amplifier but I like Diezels :D so I want to install EL34 tubes. I need focused low and clarity because I'm mainly playing in low tunings such as B standard or C standard. I'm using Gibson or Gibson-like guitars and they tend to generate lots of bass and be muddy. I read (and partially heard) that 4 EL34s+ 2 6550s are pretty good when it comes to clarity, will it do any good for me? What about preamp tubes? I really loved 12AX7C from Groove Tubes (relabelled Chinese 12ax7 tubes, A type I guess) in my Bogner Uberschall but I heard lots of people started complaining about the quality. To be honest, I like my Uberschall, I like the aggressiveness of it but for me it sounds like shit when it comes to recording it or "microphoning" it live, I think I'm into "processed" amps. I want to have that Uberschall/Marshall vibe in my Herbert. Brands and types are highly welcomed. Any help or advice is also highly welcomed!

Edit: If anyone wants to sell his Herbie (around Europan Union) please leave me a message with your email ;)

Anyone?

To sum it up a bit: I want it bright, crunchy and focused (especially at low end). I don't like grainy sounds.

EL34 x 4 (or, KT77 x 4)
6550 x 2 (or, KT88 x 2)

No sweat.

As for the preamps, you can go with a full compliment of high-grade Chinese 12AX7 no problem whatsoever.

However, biggest challenge and caveat in all of this is - you must re-bias the powertubes (in pairs) upon their installation to yield the biggest benefits of new glass. You must know "how" to do this without blowing you, or the amp, to pieces with static/capacitated electricity. So onward you go, just be careful.

Thanks man! Any particular brands of the EL34s and 6550s? I won't change (and bias) them by myself, I have a friend who does this kind of stuff.

According to Peter:
V1: Ruby Tubes 12AX7AC5 HG+ 678 Diezel selection
V2: Ruby Tubes 12AX7AC5 HG+
V3, V4, V5, V6, (V7, V8, V9): Ruby Tubes 12AX7AC5 HG
Reverb tube: Ruby Tubes 12AT7-C
Power tubes: KT77-JJ

So JJ KT77s are the current suggestion AFAIK.

I'm being a PITA and asking difficult questions about alternative preamp tubes though in another thread.
