Who's using this and how do you like it?

Getting sick of using my phone to record videos and having it come out sounding like ass....is this a giant step up or would I need a mic to capture what I hear in room?

Mostly this is just to upload vids/tracks/jam ideas with a buddy over YT, so it doesn't have to be pro quality, but I want something better than the iPhone for nuances.

Thanks guys,

Scott

IMO, it's the best one yet. You can SET the recording level. IMO that's most important as the auto-level settings on other cams suck.

Yup--that and live streaming. I have a Q4HD and these are my biggest issues with it.

Hurry up get one and start posting clips
I'd like to know about these as well.

lmao.....ain't posting any clips in this joint; these cats are far out of my league. I'll let you know what I think though.

The Q3 hd is cheaper and pretty much just as good. It captures a live concert pretty well and we all know that shit is pretty loud.

Dave, went to go look and the one you said was cheaper is like $100 more?! You talking used?

The one I was looking at was $200 new, and the Q3 is $300 new. :D

I wish I had one. I still have the H2 audio recorder. It was amazing for it's time, but they fixed everything I hated about it immediately and released that in another version and then started to come out with newer and better units until they added video. I mostly use it to record audio from webinars that I do so that I can go back and listen to them again. It is easier to just stick it in front of my speakers. If I had the q3, I could put the whole thing in front of my monitor and have the audio and presentation (which I have in pdf.) I would imagine I would still be able to just record the audio or split out the audio if I wanted. The H2 has a nasty habit of leaving you with a blank track as well. Nothing like finishing a 2hr webinar only to find that you have a track with 0 bytes on you SD card.

the thing is awesome for 200 bucks you annot beat it you can basically turn it on hit record and get a really recording right away and its hd video..

And sounds decent for home jams? The iPhone is on, but captures nothing of the in room tone at all... too much gain/fuzz just sounds like a mess.

Dude... I had a brain fart there man the Q2 is what I have now the Q3 is what I had and took back. The Q2 came out about three weeks after I got the Q3. So i took it back and exchanged it for the Q2 and got 100 back. They are pretty close to being the same I thought. The Vid is ok but the sound quality is pretty nice. I bought mainly for you tube clips for my daughter she is getting killer on the bass.

I have recorded a few concerts with it and sounds pretty killer and is easier to control the clipping I thought than the Q3.

If you dont want to spend that much Tascam makes a killer adapter for the Iphone.

A friend has one it is pretty darn close to the Zooms.

Save your money with getting extra devices.

Look at the tascam im2x add on

Or

There's a competing rhode version currently in the works or out, not sure have to check.

They sound far better than standard phone mic and pick up rooms with more detail

Just my 2c

I've got a zoom Q3 HD, additionally bought an extra SDHC 32GB card..

Here's some quick review:

- the video does not look that good even on 1080p if you have bad lighting in your rehearsal room.
this causes the video quality to drop marginally
- it needs to be placed a little further as the lens won't capture a broad picture, it's really quite narrow. If you have a smaller practice room this may be painful
- at first I used the Auto filtering, then figured out 'low' is the way to go in order to avoid distortion while starting the song, it takes a while to addapt
- batteries won't last too long so you better buy some rechargeables if you rehearse for more than 2 hours and you'd like to record as much as possible
- sound quality is superb really

heres a vid i did at practice, at very loud volumes with my q3hd. i think it was with the low mic setting, and low-cut.. we play stupid loud, and it didnt distort at all. you cant hear anything until my drummer hits his hi-hat, i did however, have to boost the volume in i movie when i was editing it, because the playback was super low. the auto setting will work, but you will have to edit out the first 5 seconds or so because it will be loud and distorted as fuck.. i'm still experimenting with mic settings for doing guitar clips etc....there are some on my youtube page.

The Q2HD is $100 cheaper and has MANUAL Level Control. No brainer. It also has volume boosting, reverb in the software.

yes thats why I bought it, its auto adjusts level even if its really loud it will dial it down to sound good, and you can turn off the video if you want just audio too.
