looking for which module will nail down Billy's tone on this album

I have a pearly gates lead p/u somewhere...............
I have an Ibanez Musician that I bought in japan when I was in the service('78-'82)
I took out the lead stock P/U and had a pearly gates put in and raised the nut for slide work, but when my guitar playing journey took me back in time
to freddie king land.I took out both P/U's and went w/ Single Coils!(Lindy Fralin P92's)
I may have a paul or a suhr in my future
Was the rev. going through a jtm45 head on that album?
I'll have to do a search on that and the SL module
Eric do you have the SL stock or is it modded(does it need to be modded)?
The First Album tone mat'l is so raw is something I've been meaning to start
working on since I heard it but never got to it, well until now!

The SL needs no mods. It's a great module as is for sure!!

Although I'm contemplating parting with mine, but am in no rush.

The SL is perfect the way it is and doesn't need any Mod..lesting

Was just upstairs playing it and it really is a fantastic module.

Done alot of searching around and Billy
was pretty tight lipped about his tones.
But the marshall 100watt superlead does get referenced early on
I'm taking order on a SL2X in a few days
and will be running 'er thru a vht 2/50/2
and hopefully I can dial it back enough to cop the 1st album feel
we shall see

A lot of his tone comes from his style of playing. I've seen him play through a lot of different amps. Had a Friend who won several blues compititions and also played with Areatha Franklin. When I was 18 he grabbed my ibanez 550 and peavy bandit 65 and started playing ZZ top songs. I couldn't believe how he made that setup sound, hell I didn't know he played Guitar at the time, to me he was just another old man with a beard hanging out with my sperm donar drinking lol.

So in short, it's the way he plays that gives him so much of his tone.

You won't get quite that thick tone that the SL can do, but you'll be getting an extremely versatile module. And you should be able to get pretty close though.

I have an older single SL+, and it can do that tone with ease....
