I know..I'm no muudrock or better yet no Eric Johnson...and it's really an off night for me...but here's the tone I was talking about getting from my BMAN that's been modded some. I was using my Warmoth VIP w/ Rebel Yells..using only the bridge. BMAN ChB w/ JP5751 in V1 is what was used.

Recorded w/ the RT2/50 and 6550s...with the grendel dead room w/ a G12K85 w/ 2 SM57s.

Settings for both rhythm and lead are
  • Bass noon
    Mids all the way up
    treble 9 oclock
    Gain all the way up
    Bass / Bright Switches off

The lead I threw on a Sparkle Drive to boost the mids just a bit, and help it "sing along" ;)

Even though my playing is way too staccato..and well just plain sucks...I'm pretty groggy today...at least you get the picture.

Great tone man!!I wouldn't say that was the Bman tho,I'm in!!!!

On second listen...it sounds more Joe Bonamassa than Eric Johnson IMHO.

Dude that sounds great!

I really should look at getting a BMan. I'm loving all the thick sounds coming out of these modules. Never had an amp before that was capable of warm thick sustain that didn't sound like it was under a blanket.

Hey Eric,

Is this the BMan that you were talking about in the Shiva thread? If so, can you post a quick sample of the clean channel when you have a chance? Do you have details about the mod?

Btw - The dead room sounds really good. Very natural.

Yep that's the BMAN I was talking about. RockStarNick modded it. I'll let him fill you in. Unfortunately, I'm leaving today (this afternoon) for 2 weeks to San Jose, and won't have much time at all to record. I'll do my best to record something before I leave, but I doubt I will.

The cleans are fantastic with the modded BMAN. Warm, thick, juicy, but tight on the low end, and great upper mids.

Eric

 Great tone !On my PC,though, the rythm track is much louder..would like to hear the lead more  Have a nice trip !

i would not have pinned that tone coming from the grendel

usually the iso cab sounds much more mid congested,

i guess that works with ej tones though!

It all depends on how you mic the cabinet. Not all tones are mid-congested w/ a iso cab if you mic it properly. It's taken me a while to figure out the best way to do it.

Hey Eric,

Do you usually do your dead room in to full range monitors or headphones or what?
Also, when you run your dead room, do you put your rack effects after the mic'ed signal or run them between preamp and power amp?

I've always had this thought of completely separating tone generation from tone dispersion. So everything form the strings, pickups, preamp, power amp, output transformer, speakers, mic, and mic placement has to do with to tone generation. Then you take that signal and disperse it. Both the tone generation as well as the dispersion have their own considerations.

That's a neat idea, but it's also a sizeable investment if it ain't all I'm cracking it up to be.

I've always wanted to run it they way I described above and then pipe it through some of these!!!
