Due to an overwhelming response to Chapter 2 (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=80512) as well as significant demand from the market for a third installment, here we go again.....

I sold an Egnater SL2X to a fellow forumite on Friday. Although I had hoped to get it shipped out to him on Saturday, life intervened and, unfortunately, all I was able to accomplish was getting it packed up and ready to go.

Here's the paint-by-number.....

Some pics of the module before it was packaged up:

Now, my first dilemna: I did not have a nice, small inner box to pack the module in. Dusting off my "arts and crafts" skills, I was able to turn this 12" x 12" x 6" box.....

.....into this 9.00" x 7.25" x 3.25" box

It's amazing what we can accomplish when we just put our minds to good use. Look how nicely my new handmade box holds the module.....

The next step was to protect the module from moisture damage and loose particles

IMG_0313.jpg

Then, it was time to line the box and get the module into it.....

Then, it was time to put a label on the inner box, just to be on the safe side (names have been omitted to protect the innocent).....

IMG_0332.jpg

The final step for the inner box was to wrap all sides in 4 layers of bubblewrap.....

IMG_0333.jpg

IMG_0334.jpg

IMG_0335.jpg

Now that the inner box was done, it was time to build the outer box.....

Now, typically, I do try to avoid - or at the least, minimize - the use of crumpled newspaper. In this case, however, there was already so much padding around the module, I decided a little newspaper would be fine. Ultimately, the newspaper was really only to be used to secure the inner box within the outer box and make sure it would not move around in transit.

In goes the inner box.....

IMG_0340.jpg

Then a little bit of foam to seal the deal.....

IMG_0343.jpg

Makes sense to reinforce all vulnerable joints in the box with packing tape, right?

IMG_0344.jpg

IMG_0346.jpg

IMG_0348.jpg

And the final step: Label the outer box.....

There, all packed up and ready to ship!

She'll be shipped out first thing Monday morning, Will! Let me know when she arrives!

Cheers!

Nice job, and I appreciate it, but that is just a bit overkill for a single module.
I hope you charge enough for packing

Haha this reminded me of a project we did in middle school to design a container for an egg you could drop off a couple stories and not have the egg crack!

That's kind of the point, no? UPS/FedEx/U.S.P.S./Canada Post aren't exactly known for their "kind handling" of packages!

So, did your egg break? ;)

I was finally able to pick this up from the post office yesterday (due to my work schedule it was sitting there for three days) and she arrived in perfect condition. Thanks, Rob!

No problem, Will! Glad it got there quickly and in good condition! Mission accomplished!

Enjoy :rawk:

How many hours did it take to unpack, or are you still working on it? :D

Ya know, out there - somewhere - there's probably a niche of people with this bizarre, innate, pseudo sexual OCD based bent on getting off/whacking off to packaging and the 'process' of packaging... You know, someone who likes to play a little pocket hockey while fondling the bubble wrap, or a chick who gets wet submersing her hands in popcorn styrofoam. Given the sheer size of this planet and its populous, I am POSITIVE someone out there is totally getting off on these otherwise benign photos.

Call me weird, I'm just sayin'...

Probably German or Japanese at that... issues.

Peace Y'all,
V. :rawk:

fake! you didn't show the pics of you applying tape to the box.
