EMG 60 in the Bridge? Unthinkable!!!!

Anyone else try out an EMG 60 in the bridge?

I'm enjoying the snot out of it! I have used the 85 pretty much my whole guitar playing life... can't stand the 81 (too shrill for me - and it almost feels like the pick attack comes out BEFORE I actually pick!), and I just tried the 81x and thought it wasn't half bad... very crunchy, not shrill at all, but missing something.

I grabbed a 60 in a trade (and I've used a 60a in the bridge a long time ago and it was okay, but not as beefy or solid as the 85). Thought I'd just play with it and then swap it for another 85 or 85x (which I have, but have yet to try out), and once the 60 was in there, I found myself loving it! Lots of low end, lots of clarity... not as 'tight' as the 85, but a fun different character, but strong and mean (like my deltoids).

Anyone else try this out?
 
My Current Favorite EMG pickups are the 57/66 Set. I have been an 81 User for 20 Years & While I love the 81, I always thought it was missing something. I will say the Older EMG's sound better.

Yeah, I think the 60 that I have is a bit older... I'm loving it in the bridge...

57/66: Man, I tried and I just couldn't get on board!!! The 57 always felt like I had to play REALLY hard to get the 'feel' out of it that I got from the 85... the cleans, however, were stellar. But for the high gain stuff, I couldn't get the 'umph' out of the 57...
 
I’ve had the 66/57 combo and and 81 and a 60. The 60 was by far my favorite of them in either the bridge or the neck. The 66/57 sounded weird to me. Like the bass was over hyped or something odd going on. The 81 is what it is. The 60 has the cut of the 81 but not nearly as thin sounding and could do clean, overdrive, or full blown metal, no problem. Great pickup.
 
The 60, or the 60X specifically, is my favorite EMG humbucker and second favorite EMG. (SX is my favorite.)

I’ve had a 60 or 60X in my two Jacksons essentially since I’ve owned them. Bridge and neck. I’ve swapped out other pickups, but the 60/60X goes back in. It’s clear, defined, and extremely versatile.

The 8 string humbucker sized versions are fantastic too.

The 60 is also the BEST pickup I’ve played in regards to working with an EQ before the amp. Very chameleon-esque.
 
I think that is whats in the Hetfield EMGs right? I have a set, my favorite if im going to use an EMG.
 
Seems like the 60 is the dark horse of the EMG world... nice discovery...

Makes me want to try out the 60a again... anyone throw the 60a in the bridge?

I'm about to try out the 85x, but I'm gearing up to NOT like it compared to the differences in the 81 and 81x - but I'll give it a good run and find out.
 
Never used a 60, but always preferred the 85 in the bridge. Alnico vs ceramic. I never get along with ceramic magnets.

If you can achieve a volume balance between two pickups that works for you ANY two pickups can be used .
 
I run 81/60 and really like the combo. The 60 is a lot warmer sounding.
 
I've got a couple EMG guitars a Jackson RR1 pro with a 81/60 set and a Esp with the Zack Wylde 81/85 set.

The Esp 81/85 work real well in that guitar, but I think its because its a 9.5lb all mahogany neck through.

But the 60 in the Rhoads neck is one of my favorite smooth yet bity lead tones. Never thought of trying one in the bridge, so now you have definitely created the curiosity to try it.
 
I've gone back to the 85, but the 60 is VERY interesting...
