I am trying to figure out what speakers to use for my silver jubilee. I have 2 cabs, an open back Vox 212 and a Marshall 1936 212 copy (closed back).

I have been running the silver jubilee through the marshall 212 with 2 Classic Lead 80's, but I am thinking of experimenting.

Here are my options:
2 Classic Lead 80's
2 G12H30's
2 Weber G1265 Clones (Don't have these yet, looking at getting some though)
Combinations of the above.

Also, open or closed back cab is a question too, I am leaning closed back.

So let me know what you guys think. I play mainly classic rock, and 80's hard rock/metal with this amp....

Would you go open or closed back cab?

I actually have my silver jubilee on my open back vox cab with G12H30's while I regrill cloth my 1936 cab. It sounds pretty good, I am missing a little low end chunk though...

Weber 65's in a closed back cab. It'll sound huge and tame some of the inherent Marshall brightness...

Right now I am going to go with a Weber 1265 and a Celestion CL80. I will probably pick up another 1265 at some point or maybe another G12H30.....

I know we have discussed Classic Lead 80's before and we disagree a bit about their sound.

However, I have recently sold all my Celestions (Hellatone 30's, Greenbacks, GT-75's) in favor of the Warehouse Classic Lead clones. I have never played a Jubilee, but if it sounds like most older Marshalls, I bet the Warehouse Classics would sound killer.

I had a pair of Weber 1265 Ceramics that I used in a Splawn 2x12 for awhile. IMO, the 1265's and the Warehouse Classics are VERY similar.........dark, smooth. However, I think the Classics sound better at low/moderate volumes when compared to the Webers.

You might want to consider these as an affordable option.

I have actually considered getting one or 2 Warehouse CL80's. I think warehouse speakers are going to release a G12-65 clone, so I may just wait and get one of their 1265 clones.

The only ones I used with mine was Emi v12s and I liked the tone.

Weber Pre-Rola clones.......that is my recommendation. Best sounding speakers I have ever played through.

I would recommend an older pair of Celestion T-75's, or Eminence's Redcoat copy.

Do you mean the Weber 1265's with pre rola treatment or another speaker?

I finally got to do some experimenting with my Marshall Silver jubilee 2553 (50Watt). Instead of buying stuff, I am doing a bit of mixing and matching with what I have. I decided to bring back this old thread instead of starting a new one.

I have been using my Marshall 1936 212 with CL80's. Yesterday at band practice I tried my marshall 1922 copy (converted to a 112) with a Weber G1265. I have played this cab before and mixed it with CL80's so I pretty much knew what to expect.

What I liked about the G1265 is the very present midrange. Good bloom to the sound, had no trouble hearing myself, with a 112, I was a bit worried about that. Also the speaker was not as efficient so I could crank the jubilee up a bit more.

I did miss some of the highs I got with the CL80's and also the lows were more flubby. I did fight a little with the sound getting a bit muddy, but just dialed down the bass a bit. Overall I liked the speaker, I am going to try it again next week. Only sound where it let me down a bit was when we played Metallica or Godsmack, it didn't have the agressiveness I wanted.

At home I tried my jubilee through my Mesa halfback 212 with MC90's. It sounded pretty good, I think may close off the top portion though as I was looking for a bit more bottom end.

Next I may try it with a Vox open back 212 with G12H30's.

The "Stan-Spec" speakers talked about here:

They are great speakers

It looks like Weber now has the pre-rola option for the greenback clones. I was thinking of getting a weber pre-rola doped greenback with a Weber pre rola doped G12h30, or just 2 weber pre-rola greenbacks. I just hope that 2 greenbacks can stand up to my 50Watt jubilee.

Greenbacks

That's what I am leaning toward, although there are a ton of greenback options. Weber pre rola greenbacks, Celestion g12M, Celestion heritage greenbacks (only handle 20Watts, so probably not a good option), Scumback M75's or M55's.

Hey Brian, I'm pretty much sold on the WGS speakers now. I have two ET65s and a Veteran 30 and I've been mixing and matching a little bit in my Bogner 2x12" cab. That cab sounds awesome with either two ET65s or an ET65 and a Veteran 30. The Veteran 30 is very dark and thick, so it brings that to the tone. The ET65s seem very balanced with good low end chunk and sweet highs (after break in.) The mids are a little subdued, but not super scooped.

A local dude had two identical 4x12" cabs, one loaded with the Celestion Heritage G12-65 and one loaded with the WGS ET65s. He didn't tell us which cab had which speakers. We jammed through them and did a side-by-side comparison and even though both cabs sounded fantastic, one just had a little more "something" to the tone that made it sound a little better. This was agreed upon by all three people there.

And yep, it was the WGS loaded cab that one the tone shootout.

The Warehouse ET65 is a good option, I would probably mix one with a Celestion Anni G12H30 if I went that way as the Weber 1265 I had didn't have enough highs for my tastes.

I find it interesting that the Warehouse beat the heritage G12-65, did they sound pretty similar other than the warehouse speakers having a little something extra?
