Ordered an Egnater Tweaker 88 from Sweetwater on monday. Got it today. Everything was packed extremely well by Egnater. Thick foam surrounding the amp. The amp is beautiful. The tolex matches my 4x12. Its a small and compact head which is also nice. Not very heavy either. I used to have an Egnater Tourmaster head, and that was over 75 pounds. Its got a built in fan, and its quiet. Its got 2 sweet looking Ruby KT88 power tubes. The footswitch is small and has 4 buttons...channel, fx loop, rhythm boost, and lead boost. More about that in a minute.
First impressions...the amp has got serious punch and power lurking in there. I couldnt turn it up here in the apt, but I know those KT88's are gonna sing when I crank it. Its got a lot of "tweakable" toggle switches, to fine tune the tone and the feel of each channel. And they do make a noticeable difference. The selectable tone stack eq section is killer. Each mode is very different, letting you find your tone.
Right now I have it set so the clean rhythm channel is nice and clear and clean, with the gain at about 10 oclock. Mid cut, bright switch, modern mode, and deep switch, all engaged. Then...I have the "boost" set to gain boost. So, when I step on the rhythm boost switch its goes to a really nice overdriven pushed clean. You can also adjust the level of the boost. This is just like having 2 clean channels. I set the Lead channel up in mostly the same fashion. I have my heavy rhythm tone, and then step on the lead boost switch for a sweet bump in gain and volume. this awesome feature makes it very flexible. You can also set each boost to a "clean" boost, where it wont add extra gain, just volume. Right now I have the Lead channel in the "clean" mode and theres still lots of gain on tap. I only have the gain at 1 oclock and my Les Paul is singing with sustain and chunk. If you flip the toggle to "hot" you will have lots more gain to mess with.
Im playing it thru my Sourmash 4x12 loaded with WGS Veteran 30's. The cab is a vintage marshall style straight. I can already tell that this amp is going to sound awesome thru this cab. I know this is NAD honeymoon stuff, but Im loving this amp! Im already thinking about changing the front grille on the amp to match my cabinet. Or maybe Ill get some matching black tolex instead of the cane style grille. Well see!
