Finally decided to build a 50W JCM800 kit. I picked this one up from Mojotone and it looks pretty sweet. All the parts seem like decent quality. Trannys look like Heyboer, Aluminum chassis, Alpha pots, Carbon Comp resistors, JJ tubes. I figured I'd build it pretty much stock to start mod it from there.

It just landed today so here's what she looks like.

First up was to attach the front and rear panels

Building it all stock or kicking it up a notch??
It'll start off pretty much stock but I'm sure that won't last long.

That's gonna be real nice I would think. Envious as hell too...wish I had the skills and patience to build one of these :D Looking forward to seeing the end product and some clips.

Looks cool. I am curious to how these kits stack up with kits of the past.

I'm curious to hear if it sounds like a JCM800! Good luck with the build!

Awesome! good luck!

I did the same thing. I have a 2203 clone I built... then it got extra gain changes and EQ tweaks and depth controls :)

im REALLY interested in this...i was contemplating either the same kit, the 100, or just buying a chupacabra....im super intrigued with buying my own kit and building it though. i think it'd be awesome to have one, and eventually have something going like fusionbear does...i think his builds are really cool and great sounding.

keep us posted with pics and details!!!

Cool! Keep us posted with some pics along the way.

Curious to hear what this sounds like when it's all done.

have always been interested in building a clone....nice choice!
I am guessing you need decent electrical skills for something like this?
Or are the instructions idiot proof....yeh I know, idiots should not be playing with charged caps!!

I have no formal electrical skills but am pretty comfortable doing this. I've gotten my feet wet with a few Metro builds already. It comes with a layout and a schematic but no step by step instructions so you'll need a little experience if you decide to dive in.

50 watt? That's not like you.
Yea, I know. They only offered the JCM in 50W so I figured what the hell. It's been a while since I had a 50W but I'll see if I can breathe some fire into it.

If anyone has some good sounding mods that will add some gain please send them my way. ;)

That's been my experience as well. I started off with a Champ clone, then a Metro Super Lead kit, then a Ceriatone JCM800. No formal training or anything. Just did lots of research and learned how to read a schematic. :)

Looking forward to seeing and hearing your build. :D

Looks fantastic man! I live two hours from Mojotone, so I've been tickling the idea of ordering a kit from them. Definitely going to keep an eye on this thread.

Looks great so far! Have you decided on a grounding scheme yet, whether typical JCM 800 or star ground?
