Seven string players, what do you use? What is your seven string of choice? As I've become more interested in the tonal ranges of seven strings, I wanted to get more insight from my rig-talkers!

Let's hear 'em!

Ibanez K7s with Dimarzio Blaze custom pickups. That big slab of Mahogany with Blaze Customs can get me in the ballpark of the Les Paul Trad Pros I used to have. Doesn't sound exactly like them but gets that warm fat sound with a little sizzle on the top.

Ibanez Universe UV777 with EMG 81-7 and EMG 707. For strings I use Ernie Ball 10-whatever the low B is tuned down a whole step.

Tons...

Here's whats on the way though ;)

Saving up for a BS-7 LTD, RG1527RB, and an ESP FR-7.

One in drop A, the other in Bb standard, and the other in drop Ab

on the left, Ibanez RG7-CTVV loaded with evolutions. it gets the job done.

I have two Carvin DC747c's which are fantastic instruments!
I'm now playing a Strandberg* Boden 8. I crossed back over to an even amount of strings this past March. Haven't looked back.

Definitely my Koa Suhr. It's the best I've ever laid my hands on!

Ibanez 2127z with Seymour Duncan Pegasus/Sentient set up.
Back up is the Agile Interceptor Pro with the Nazgul/Sentient set up.
Second back up is a Schecter Blackjack ATX C7 (that is currently being used by my other guitarist, because I absolutely despise the Blackout pups that are in it).

Considering grabbing the string through 2127z or the Keith Merrow Signature when it is released...

Ibanez RG7620s and RG1527s. Dimarzio Blaze Custom or EVO in bridge...Air Norton or Blaze in the neck.

Tom Anderson Drop Top 7 with SD Nazgul/Sentient pickups

ESP Eclipse 7 with SD EMTY pickups. Soon to be Distortion/Sentient though. I have them just haven't installed yet.

For a new 7 player looking to try one: I'd highly recommend an old Japanese Ibanez (7620 for Floyd or 7621/7421 for fixed bridge). Great guitars that can be found for a song.

On the high end, Anderson and Ibanez J-Customs are killer. I've played 6-string ESP and Suhr guitars that were great, so I'd expect their 7-strings are just as nice.

Thanks for all the recommendations! I'm searching up a good amount of them right now. However, the one thing that always got me about ibanez was the "tin" sound on the high strings. Does anybody else notice this? Does it differ with 7 strings?

Remedy to this thin sound is a big brass block. Works wonders.

When I had a 7 stringer, it was an EBMM JP7. One of the best "production" 7 strings out there.

I played a BFR7 that was just super easy to play and sounded killer. Just hate the price tag

I have 2 Ibanez 7s, an RG and an S. An Esp LTD 207 (was what started my quest of more strings) and the first run of Agile's in what was to be violin but turned out to be violet.

If I had to keep just one, it would be my S series Ibby. Got a Tone Zone 7 in the bridge and Air Norton 7 in the neck. Does it all, screams, sings, purrs, the dishes... everything. Does it all, does it well and does it all day long. Like a beautiful woman who doens't realize she's beautiful! ;)

Honestly I rarely touch a 6 any longer as they feel incomplete in my hands.
