Hey all...
I have a 2001 VHT Pittbull Ultralead head. Purchased second hand recently. Having issue with the amp where the amp barely starts to put out any kind of volume until you get the master to at least 1 or 2:00pm. Even at that point, it doesn't have the great tone that the Ultraleads have Put a brand new quad of KT88's in it. properly biased, also replaced all of the preamp tubes. Have tried the amp through several cabinets and getting same issue. Cleaned all of the pots and connections in the amp as well.
Has anyone experienced this issue before? Someone suggested it could be an issue with the effects loop, and also heard it could be the output transformer. Hoping I'm not sitting on a $2K paperweight here!!

Try plugged your guitar into the return, then post back. That is the easiest thing you can do that benefits the most.

Also try just using a patch cable in the FX loop without any pedals. Sometimes there's something going on with the jacks that messes things up but a cable allows the signal to pass and the volume comes back.

we did try that. increased output slightly, but not much.

Power tube sockets might need retensioning?
Triple check PI tube is solid
Spray all tube pins with electronics contact cleaner

Suggest you email Fryette support or take to a tech.

You have better luck than me if you can get those guys to answer an email or the phone.

My advice would be to send it out to Steve.I'll try to keep this brief, after multiple returns to a local gc tech( where purchased) under gc's warranty, botched and failed repair attempts by them,I had enough and sent my CLX to steve like i shouldve done in the first place.Amp made premier guitar article and fryette's Instagram account of why you shouldnt send an amp to a 3rd party or unqualified repair tech. The gut shots showed a horrible botch repair attempt.Kudos to Steve and crew as in a 2 day turn around and my clx absolutely destroys now! Send it to the builder.

I had something like this with my Mesa Mark IV recently, cleaned the tube sockets with a good quality cleaner and it was back in action :)

If that does not work it *might* be the filter caps - send it back to Fryette and get them to change them out.

severe lack of amp techs in my area. the one tech we have semi local generally has an 8 week turnaround time.

I used to have such issues. They've gotten a lot better of late.

One method to escalate is to tweet at Dark Side of Fryette. I believe that account is run by Eriko, Steven's wife. She has helped me out when I was not getting a response from Dave (support).
