Ground Zero might be something to consider. I’ve never played one, but they seem like modded Marshalls with a heavy, tight, low mid emphasis. Lots of tone-shaping features. I think their flagship is the Helion, maybe? Clips sound great, though on the modern side.

Wow! Great looking craftsmanship there in those gut shots. Oh man, SIX preamp tubes? Is there a tube-buffered loop? Because, damn!

I gotta say: I think it’s so incredibly cool that guys like Dave F., Josh from JHS etc have podcasts where they actually have their “competitors” on as guests, and tout their products. (You don’t see Nike or Coca Cola praising Reebok or Pepsi on any podcast, or anywhere else!) In these times...

I think it’s a great show/source for knowledge and insight on gear, tone, music etc. However, it does drag on from time to time. And they have big corporate sponsors sometimes—I’m not down with that. But it’s not a huge deal. And they have “smaller” DIY guys on the show, that’s awesome...

Is the Morris loop similar to the Metro loop?

I think you nailed it: builders like Morris, Germino, Metro, Dr Dan etc are building amps that bring killer tone and performance, in some cases better than vintage gear. You can gig and tour with them, play the shit out of them—no problem, no worrying about them getting finicky or blowing up...

I’ve been wondering the same thing. The Metroplex MKII has G’s emulation magic happening, but the Suhr SLs seem very similar to the Plex; variac switch and other EVH tweaks, and I think their MVs are similar. Someone needs to do an A/B clip with them. So, are there any real differences...

I hear ya. I’ve had experiences with Friedman, Bogner etc where they can sound/feel a bit refined or modern or whatever and lack some aggressive, raw, open thing—which I really dig. I have an SL68, a Bray 4550 and some others. They deliver! I have a Metroplex MKII coming and I’m hoping and...

I think that sounds great! Especially for a simple clip. Sounds really open and articulate. And the growl from whatever that boost is—killer. 🤟
