New Iron Maiden Rig Rundown - Marshall JVM410H

Janick > Kirk, at least these days. Kirk talks like his mediocrity is part of some artistic journey, and really it seems more like laziness. Janick doesn't seem to take himself nearly that seriously.

    Classical vs acoustic?

Try out a classical guitar somewhere if you can. They're a different beast. Lots of knowledge is applicable between the two, but it's a different feel. The string spacing will be wider on a classical, to accommodate that style of playing. Also, classical players tend to grow their nails...

What do you guys like as a high gain JCM800?

2203 and goose the front end with a pedal. In my case, I have a Ceriatone 2203 with 3-way bright switch and NFB control to further tweak things. Ceriatone Yeti Headfirst Alta. I haven't played one, but if I didn't already have four amps that do the Marshall thing, I'd be all over an Alta.

Bark at Moon Vs Ultimate Sin

I chose BATM, but I really like both of them for the snapshot they give into the development of JEL and his collaborators at the time, as well as the production. I have a bit more affection for BATM, purely as a result of nostalgia. 17 years old, senior year of high school, fall of 1986, and had...

    Queensryche 2025

Live, I think Todd sings Geoff's stuff better than Geoff ever did, even when he was younger.

    Megadeth or Metallica?

I give a slight edge to Metallica, but that's largely based on their output prior to the Black album. By and large, Megadeth have had the more interesting music in the last few decades, and a large part of that is probably because Mustaine is still so toxic.

Just for funsies, what fretboard oil/conditioner do you use?

I keep my house at a consistent humidity, and the only time I've had to condition a board is when I've bought a used guitar that needed it. When I do, I use food grade mineral oil. Most lemon oil is just lemon-scented mineral oil.

    Guitar Market Poll

I haven't really tried to sell anything in the last few years. I eventually got tired of the hassle of packing and shipping, paying fees to the various intermediaries, and have also encountered way too many flakes in the local markets. I don't have to sell existing gear in order to fund whatever...

    Bad luck with JJ ecc83s

Environmental considerations aren't even remotely the biggest issue. It's a niche product, being produced in countries with lower labor/production/material costs, on tooling whose R&D costs were recouped decades ago, and even so, margins are razor thin. Just about anyone with experience bringing...

    Played a JEL-50 today

I don't know what's changed with the circuit, if anything, but to me the original 100w JEL sounded a bit more raw. Or maybe it's all in my head. In any case, I think Jason does it better:

Guitar country of origin: Does it matter?

It doesn't really matter to me. I look at whether I think the value is there for what I'm paying. Lower quality has more to do with the price point they're being asked to meet and any corners that need to be cut to achieve that, rather than being intrinsic to the COA. I have MIK Schecters and a...

Reverb bought by Fender parent company

This could be a positive thing; not all investment groups are created equally. They bought Reverb because they see at least some value in doing so. It's possible but unlikely that it's about acquiring their IP and parting/licensing that out. More likely, they think Reverb is doing as least some...

    Who's next for a Signature Pedal ????

I'd love to see an updated take on the Butler Tube Driver. The U.S. Tube King he did for Ibanez in 90s was almost perfect: it had an active 3-band EQ and fixed the power and impedance issues. They're becoming harder to find. I think they're the perfect LV tube pedal for pushing the front of a...

What Guitar is Missing from Y'all's Collections?

I don't have anything with a Floyd, and I don't have a fully hollow archtop. Otherwise I think I have all the bees covered..
