Necro bump again
I started with the Tone Lizard 'Ultimate JCM800' mods. Some were ok, some not my cup of tea. Went back to stock, then added a SAT switch and did a BE/Jose style mod. That woke it up. Then went to a full Marsha-esque clone with an added preamp tube. Nice, fat, and gainy, but not...
All I can say, is I am fortunate to proclaim "ignorance is bliss". My dumb brain and ears just can't justify the $$ over every day amps. And that contract pricing is wild even by today's standards. For the ones who can hear and feel the difference, I envy you to a degree.
Great sounding amp...
I may not have much of a dog in this fight as I don't have a lot of experience with a variety of plexi style amps, but being an early EVH tone geek I have been quite pleased with modding a couple of my 2204 amps to try to mimic the old VH tones. I've gone through 'value correct' (meaning not...
Not quite sure, but it's the licensed "low pro" that LTD used about 20 years ago. Same one came on my LTD Lynch 500K from 2003.
Cheap zinc alloy garbage with coarse threaded pivot posts.
Went pawn shop browsing last weekend and came across a decent score. Appears to be an older LTD KH-202 stripped body, and a bag of all of its hardware and electronics for $24. No cracks at the neck pocket!
Now, aside from waiting for the right neck to pop up on flEbay or Reverb, what other...
Had a batch of them that came in my Runt 50. Low output compared to typical run of the mill preamp tubes and could not replace them quick enough. Hoping my experience was an outlier but haven't cared to try them again.
I've owned one for a few years now. To me it's a fair comparison to what you'd think a stripped down XTC would sound like. Better at lower volumes, easier to carry around, but lacks the big boy balls the 101b has.
My loop isn't really an issue, but I have discovered - by reading the manual -...
Lynch used this in his REH instructional vid. God-like tones. I'm not aware of him using this on an actual album, though - but I don't claim to know it all.
