Alnico Speakers

Has anybody had any experience with a BE100 or a Dirty Shirley with Celestion Alnico speakers ? They would be going into a Friedman 4X12 cab.

Jj through an alnico cream and v30 in a 212. Wonderful! I did replace it with a stock Friedman 412 but the cream is now in my buxom Betty combo and I think it gets no better.

Usually alnico speakers do not respond well to higher levels of gain. They tend to mush out or get soft sounding. Ceramic speakers do a better job of handling pedals, boosts, etc. in my experience.

I agree, they tend to shine more on mid gain or clean tones.

I had a 212 loaded with Alnico Creams. I agree, great speakers, but they "dull" the tone of my high gain amps. Just no bite compared to a ceramic version. Too smooth and polite.

I always agree with Jim, and personally think the best high gain speaker made is his H75 with the large dust cap.

That being said, check this out:
