I love when people like to feel superior and turn up their noses to tone peasants that require boosts.
The fact is applying a boost to most amps will achieve a feel and response not available without the boost. This goes for most amps. I've owned a few dozen highly regarded tube amps and there have only been two I saw no benefit with some type of boost be it an EQ or OD, not that I'm a tone expert or virtuoso player.
The fact is it is just another way to make your amp more versatile so, go ahead and turn up your noses.
