DIY DC Cables For Pedalboard Wiring?

What gauge and type of wire is used for 9-18VDC cables? Anyone have any online sources? And does it have to be shielded, or will standard 1-pair work ok? I've been able to find connectors, but I haven't had much luck finding specs on the cabling itself.
 
I'd like to know this and where to get the connectors as well.
 
Anything will do really, from and old guitarcable you have laying (sp?) around to simple thin speaker wire.

I just wasn't sure if unshielded was going to cause noise problems. I've been able to find all kinds of unshielded in that smaller gauge, the only shielded (in bulk) I could find so far was a Canare coax listed for digital data transmission.

Thank for the smallbear links, I hadn't come across that site yet.
 
small bear is a great resource. Not quite as cheap as mouser or digi-key, but only the parts you are likely to need, not the millions of other parts you'd never use.
