Economy picking vs alternate picking

I tend to be an alternate picker. Sweeping in general has always been trouble for me. I try to use as much legato as possible and to pick less or at least pick lightly, but when I am picking it's alternate more than anything else, so for me it isn't necessarily a preference. Just the way I do it, and I have tried to change my habits and sweep more but it ain't easy. :p
