Help me load my 4x12

I bought a Marshall JCM800 last summer. It was a 260w cab. I asked the guy if it has the original speakers. He said he thought so. He told me the local shop he bought it at. I got a really good deal on it. $300. I finally got around to opening it up. Ugh. It has older Celestions in it but they are G12-30s. Small magnet speakers. Not sure what that is all about.

So I am going to load this cab up. This cab has a solid plywood back, which surprised me. Maybe someone replaced it and reinstalled the 260w tag on the back??

Here is what I have for speakers in 16 ohms laying around. Mostly playing an SLO100.

4-G12K-85
2-Greenbacks UK
2-Scumback M65
2-Celestion Heritage G12-30 55hz

Should I buy a couple more Greenbacks?
Should I buy a couple V30s and mix the greenbacks or the the G12K-85?
Should I install the G12k-85 and call it a day
Should I buy a Bogner 4x12 with V30s and throw this cab in the trash?

It has G12H-30’s in it and you also have 2 Heritage G12H-30’s? A lot of people like these speakers for classic rock, blues, etc. If you don’t like them, you could probably sell them locally and get some of your money back and put it towards some of the new G12-65’s. They won’t sound exactly like old ones but they also won’t fall apart on you like old ones I have bought.

No, they are G12-30. Totally different speaker

I'd rock the K85s. You got them already, so it will only cost you an evening with a soldering iron.

I liked a greenback/ V30 mix with my SLO 30.

The Scumback/ greenback combo could be interesting.

Ah, you called your heritage h-30’s g12-30’s as well so I just assumed. Looking up G12-30’s those were a budget speaker Marshall put in cheaper combo amps in the 80’s. That is indeed a bummer.

What do you usually play? Ex: Blues, metal, etc.

Mostly crunch channel for Americana Rock Indi stuff. But my roots are in Metal so...

With what you have either 4x G12K-85 or swap two of the K85s for Scumbacks.

I can’t imagine those Heritage H30 55Hz sounding good with an SLO…I’d expect harsh/fizz. Even Greenbacks (M25-75Hz) have too much upper mid crunch imo for an SLO and I love Greenbacks.

That cab would’ve come with either G12 65s, or unfortunately the bad G12M70s. Those 30s I’d take over the 70s..although my Naylor seems to like 70s. When they stopped making the 65s they just put 70s in but didn’t change the tag; much like the 100w tags stayed on cabs in 78/79 while they put the first 65s in.

Me - based on what you currently have and having to spend to get two more. Btw/ not a fan of the 85's so not in my options.

Option one - I'd buy a couple more GB's for a quad.
Option two - mix some V30's in with the GB's.
Option three - buy two more Scumbacks for a quad.

or just go all new and get -

Option four - buy two V30's and two GH12 Annis - my current fav combo.

A couple of you recommended that combo. Have you tried it? I guess I could give it a shot. I didn't really consider that combo.
