The effects issue, MAy 2008 maybe????, was one killer read and IMO a must have back issue with you and others chiming in about building pedal boards. I learned more about boards with that articule than years of surfing the forums. Pete has some interesting views in regards to true by-pass and the use of an TU-2 for a quick buffer that really had me thinking.

So do you believe in isolating grounds for power? It does sound logical to me.
 
Yes isolated power for a rig or pedal board is the way to go. Not always needed but wise if you are doing it yourself. Voodoo Lab pedal power is great for this. Dave
