My 2204 has more gain than I'd expect

Vishay 562R are great caps for these spots. Mouser has them usually.

1000 pf, 1500pf and 2200pf are common values to go with on the divider. 700pf is going to borderline get harsh. You're boosting the high trebles just before you get into the upper midranges.

I actually prefer 470pf for the treble cap. With a 33k slope you will be fine with 500pf though. Can even try 560pf.
 
I love the SOZOs, some say they're overpriced hooey, but they sound good in my Plexi build and my SB50 build I recently did. My 2204 build, I used ERO/Vishay caps. Works great in that amp! No complaints at all.
 
The question is, do you want to reduce the gain the amp has? Or do you like it where it is, and you're just curious why it has more than you expect? With that PI tail value, NFB on the 8ohm tap instead of 4 ohm, and 10K grid resistors, I'd actually expect the amp to have LESS gain/output. So... yeah kinda weird.
