NAD: Mesa Boogie DC-5 head

After a few years of searching, I found one!

It's a Rev B, looks near-mint and it's a lot lighter than I expected after a stint with a Mark IV.

The good:
-those cleans... Ermahgedd... :D
-versatile drive tones, that will really bring the br00tz once boosted.
-no annoying fan noise.
-FX-loop properly placed (pre-master volume).
-very nice, albeit subtle reverb

The less good:
-it needs to be really loud to come alive.
-Lead channel won't really do the Mark IV-tightness, unless boosted with a TS-like (low-cut) boost.

After A/B-ing it with my Engl Savage 60 (also 24" format, 2-channel, 2x EL34 (opposed to 2x 6L6) ) ,
the DC-5 wins in the cleans (as expected), although the difference was not as big as I'd thought it would be, and in singing, thick leads.
The Engl wins in the tighter rhythm tones, versatility in types of Marshall-esque drive sounds and ease of use.

I'll probably won't gig with it, since the EVH 5150III is more practical in a few respects there, but I'll need to check how recorded tones would fare, also compared to the little Mark V:25, where I really like the Xtreme mode through the 1x12 Thiele cab.

Nice! I find something special with about any Mesa I have owned. They just do 'this' certain thing like nothing else.

Does the loop mix actually go 100% wet?
It does seem that way. I'm not sure if the serial-mod would bring anything more.

@splawndude, more than $500, less than $1000. ;)
