Dude! Minimum wage was never meant to server a CAREER! It is meant for young unskilled workers that need to "get by" while they learn a skill so they may "advance" into a working "career."

Lazy people who don't try to advance themselves in the work place deserve just that.

BTW - it's a typical donk move to make uneducated people more reliant on BIG government. It's their legacy.

This post is not BS :D.

Minimum wage is $7.50 an hour in California. If it was $5.15 an hour, I'd have two employees doing the work that I make one employee do now. So yes, the one uneducated, unskilled worker is happy that he can make $7.50 an hour and the other uneducated, unskilled worker has NO JOB.

Wow, an employer makes 3x as much as the employee makes? Did the employee work for 3 and a half years for no pay, putting every penny they earned back in to build the business? Does the employee come down to the store at 3:30am when some asshole has tried to break in and wait til 6am for a guy to get there and board up the window? Does the employee care if the place burns down in the middle of the night? Does the employee get paid their hourly wage for every hour they work, even if no one comes in and buys anything? Has the employee put his credit and financial future on the line to try and run a business and even provide a couple of jobs for other people? Does the employee lose his house if the place goes belly-up?

The minimum wage employee has no risk whatsoever, no investment in the business, no secondary education and no real skills. $5.15 an hour sounds about right to me.

SAved me alot of typing, thanks bro :)

See ya next week!

raising the minimum wage is gonna force inflation, it's that simple

and this is coming from someone who gets paid barely over minimum wage as it is

i guess i'm of the naive belief that anyone who's worth more than $5.15/hour can earn more, so yeah maybe it's tough sometimes but that's life...what a concept

hey! maybe now that high school drop out flipping burgers for me at mcdonalds will care more about the product he's serving me

no, wait, what was i thinking

lol

welcome to the future, a democratic nightmare of useless bleeding heart bills being past.

liberalism IS a mental disorder.

There are two sides to this issue. On one hand, the minimum wage is the lowest it has been in a very long time (after adjusting for inflation). On the other, most of what was said in this thread regarding raising overhead etc. is true. I think that there should be a set minimum wage that automatically rises with inflation to make debates such as this one moot.

BS.

I bet you most workers make their bosses at least 3x what they make per hour, minimum.

For example - I make $8 CAD/hr or $7.25ish US now. I sell probably $500 worth of shoes a day (on avg - sometimes its as much as $1000) for my employer on an 8-hour shift. Even if my boss only actually MADE half of that (though I know margins are usually 110% markup), he paid me $64, and made $186 profit from just me alone. And my workplace is a small business.

Every time I see posts like this from you I cringe. The way you're somehow unable to understand that every dollar generated isn't a dollar of profit is ridiculous and makes it no wonder you're worried about minimum wage. With your reasoning skills, you'll NEVER be "the boss."

There are all kinds of complex arguments against it, but for the most part, I agree with you. You've got to be willing to GO GET IT. I was making $13 or so an hour in 1983 doing freaking construction work. Then again, I didn't just sit idle waiting for somebody to increase the minimum wage, I went for it and then I busted my ass to be one of the two top installers when I got there.

AMEN.

And minimum wage is for teenagers, people in school etc. It really should encourage people to get off their ass and make something of their life. If minimum wage was $15.00 an hour how many lazy motherfuckers would take advantage? Probably a lot.

Chubtone by KO.

Cloudnine is clearly not looking at the situation through the viewpoint of a business owner, or how consumer prices would be ultimately affected :D

Sean cracks me up with his beat up soapbox that he drags around here. I agree....Leader and Sean do not mix well.

Kay.

Maybe you guys didn't notice, but I ALREADY SUBTRACTED HALF OF WHAT I SOLD FOR BILLS AND INVENTORY, EVEN THOUGH I KNOW SOMETIMES THE OWNER PAYS AS LITTLE AS 20% OF THE RETAIL PRICE OF THE SHOE.

I just wonder why a Canadian is so eager to talk badly about someone elses Country. :? How does Our Minimum wage affect you? Shouldnt you be bitching about the problems in your own country?

Last I checked, most business owners arent in it for charity. Any employee who thinks that they deserve a part of the profits beyond what they get paid is simply delusional.... Theyre all invited to open up their own businesses, take all the risks and reap the profits... Why is it that they are so unwilling to see things from anything beyond their own myopic perspective?
