PRS SE Custom 24 Pickups

Well I wound up getting a PRS SE Custom 24 in faded blue burst. String height was way too high and pickups have way too much bottom end and a blanket over the speakers sound. Debating on if pickup pole pieces and pickup height should be adjusted or should I just get the Seymour Duncan Hot Rod set (JB bridge & Jazz neck and get the PRS 5 way switch along with locking tuners?
 
You can always adjust the pickups and try and see if it mitigates them issue. If it doesn’t then you can load it with what you want.
 
I put a Duncan Custom and Jazz in one of my CU24 SEs, and a set of Fishman Moderns in my other CU24 SE.
 
All of PRS's overseas-made pickups sound like garbage. Period.

I've had a few S2's, and the Duncans would be a huge improvement. They're beyond adjustment, they really are pure garbage.
 
I definitely think it's worth it to try and adjust the pickups some before you take them out and start swapping.
However, I too have found that the PRS pickups lately have really been lacking. The last ones I had were very boomy,
and they did have that blanketed sound to them like you mentioned. So, I'm not sure if you will get improvement from
adjusting them, but I still think it's worth a shot.
The SD Hot Rodded set will definitely be an improvement from that. The JB will add some nice upper-mids and a tighter bottom, and
I love the Jazz in a Custom 24, I think it's a good combination.
 
I love the SE line, but absolutely hate the pickups. Gotta cut corners somewhere to fit that price range, so I get it.

Very true I've had a few of them and I've never liked the sound of the stock pickups. It wouldn't hurt to try messing with the height and adjust anything you can thing you can because it's free but I think you'll end up buying different pickups in the end. Good luck ?

They're the absolute muddiest, most sterile shit pickups I've ever experienced. They're so bad, I can't believe PRS would approve of them. Someone in their R&D needs their ears cleaned.

On the flip side, upgrades make these exceptional guitars for the price.
 
It's all about the $ and profit my brother! They save money we spend more upgrading. Smart I guess until until everybody gets tired of the bullshit.
 
Been playing my 24 custom Floyd core much more lately. But, picked up the Se this AM for some medium gain tones thru my 93' Marshall SLP Monomyth and it sounded pretty good. I haven't felt need to change PUs yet, altho I do have a spare JB and Jazz floating around. I don't think the PUs in my 2018 are as bad as others saying here. All subjective tho!

Right now at our practice spot I'm running it through my 95 Mesa tremoverb head and mesa 2x12 cab that's in my signature into a Behringer powered pedal board with a couple Behringer pedals: delay, tube overdrive and a Tc electronic corona chorus and line 6 g30 wireless and when I first got the prs before my other guitarist lowered the string height, on the Mesa I had to lower the bass control on the Mesa on the red channel to around 9 o clock and increase the treble and presence on the red channel. Amp is running 8 Ohm.
 
We had practice last night and I decided to bring my Partscaster that's in my signature and compared to the PRS the Partscaster caster was more brighter. On the PRS with lowering the pickups do I lower them both to be level with pickup rings first? Is there a method with adjusting the individual pole pieces? I've never done this before
