MURDERATOR
I'm sure this has been discussed but I'm curious and ignorant as well. Please enlighten me with your experiences and recommendations. So I discovered stl amphub and it looks pretty killer. I'll never play live again and just beat on it from time to time...THE GUITAR!!!LOL. So this will probably suit me. What do you guys think?

If your interface has a Hi-Z input, which I'm almost positive yours does since they all seem to, don't waste your money on a D.I. box. You will not hear a monumental difference, if any at all. I've used/tested with a few hi end boxes and cheap boxes. They all are identical. Especially if you just wanna jam out on your computer.

Thanx brother! interesting about the D.I. boxes, great info. I have no interface to plug into so I'll have to get a D.I. box....unless I'm missing something?

There is absolutely a difference in various DI boxes and the Hi-Z inputs on interfaces.

If you don't have an interface, you'd need to start there first.

I just did a DI shootout during our last session between the old Ampeg tube DI, a Radial JDI, a Whirlwind, and a cheap Livewire. The Ampeg had a bass boost to it, the JDI was cleanest and purist, and the other two weren't too different. The iron in the DI does make a difference.

I mean, this forum of all places, should not be surprised that tubes and transformers impact your tone. Yes, a better transformer in a better DI will sound better.

I suggest a Fredenstein RamDI direct box and reamp box built into one. I've heard good reviews and it's on my short list of studio upgrades.

Just so we're clear, you can't plug a DI box into your computer so yes - you're missing an interface.

If you just want something digital to plug in to and aren't planning on recording there's much simpler options than a PC based software sim. A cheap little standalone box is far easier.

Don't get sidetracked with the high-quality DI talk, if you're starting out this a conversation for way, way down the track.

hey thanx for the heads up guys...I'm a total noob at this shit-as well as not being the most tech savvy. I just assumed You get the software and a D.I. box and your good. I thought guitar to D.I. to computer...then headphones or moniters. LOL...

Bro if you’re not tech savvy and decide to get an interface ask here for recommendations.

There are some out there that are good deals and sound great but the drivers aren’t the best/easiest to use and you’ll get immensely frustrated.

Bought a cheaper one with good pres for a buddy a few years back so we could record stuff together and flip tracks back and forth to each other, this motherfucker wouldn’t run anything but Windows 7 and it was a HUGE pain in the dick to get all that set up. Took most of a whole day to get it working.

ummm....I'm running 7.........:scared:

Pick up an audient id14 or one of the new Motu's. Good converters, will have hi Z for your DI needs and then boom fire it into your daw and arm the track with the input from interface. Then load the plugin and play away.
