Looking for something reliable and cheap? Appreciate it if you all could link me to what you use

Have not soldered since I was 8 years old, looking to get back into it ?

Thank you in advance!

Weller WS81 is the standard but it's not cheap.

I have a few more expensive ones like a weller and a digital hakko for computer repair and building microcontrollers, but honestly if you're not working with sensitive electronics and seldom using it even a cheap $10 Harbor freight or Walmart one will do fine for soldering pickups to pots as long as you are working in a warmish environment, clean and tin the tip, and use alligator clip or battery tender clamps as a heatsink. They work fine as long as you are willing to wait for it to warm up and keep it away from breezes. ?‍♀️

just gonna be inside in a room that is always 68-70 degrees year round...just gonna find something cheap on amazon in that case

I am sorry i am not much help. I used to get really drunk and order all kinds of shit. So all the time shipments were coming and surprising me.

It was always like christmas

thats awesome, christmas every morning!

you've been perfectly helpful, i'm just going to start with it as it comes and go from there...any specific solder or "whatever is cheapest" will work for pickups?

MG Chemicals 4895-227G 60/40 Rosin Core Leaded Solder, 0.032" Diameter, 1/2 lbs Spool https://a.co/d/2KHje9m

Man. This isnt cheap, but i bought it in 2018, and it is still going. When people play my guitar, they always comment on the tone. It could be this or @scottosan s pickup. Idk. But it will last you the rest of your life

KSGR T12 all the way. I bought one a couple years ago to use more than my Weller. It's a clone of a popular soldering iron and has easily replaceable inserts with different tips on it and heats up SUPER fast and has a digital readout. I use it a lot when modding my old game consoles.

I myself am a Hakko kind of guy ..... I wouldn't throw a Weller out of bed though either ...
