Mesa MKIIC+ Reissue......Yep that's the tone.......

I hear a little bit of that am radio midrange honky going. It might be good besides that, but that one part is pretty distracting to my ears, should get fixed and not part of imo the classic mark sound

I think he has it spot on for what’s recorded, he just needs to double track to get the gain character.

It's close, but the palm mutes in the 2nd video were what triggered the spidey senses for me. I don't know if double tracking would even be enough to thicken those up.

IIRC those SGs come with Gibson's t-type (current t-topish) pickups which make things thinner sounding.

I'm not a fan of the AJFA type tone, so it's not for me. But it does sound very close.

I picked up one of these a few weeks ago and its a great rock/metal amp overall. I had an original Mark iic+ back in the early 90s but only for a brief time. The one thing I liked about it was even if you scooped the graphic the amp has an overall voicing that keeps things nice and thick. Its voiced much different than my Mark IV. My IV is modded and has tons more gain than the reissue but thru both of my original Recto cabs it sounds glorious together! I wish I could remember more of what my iic+ sounded like back in the day to have a better idea of old vs. new. I didnt buy this amp to sound like Metallica! LOL

While the RI sounds good, it lacks gain/saturation compared to the original for sure.

It sounds very close in character and gain level, you guys are just expecting to hear double tracking i think
Tough crowd I guess..............:dunno:I'm not even a Metallica fan and I heard the signature tone in that clip........it's quite obvious.

My point was the core amp tone is there with no studio processing......I mean it would seem to be 90% of the way there or better IMHO. I don't know what speakers the guy in the vid is using and I don't even think he was using that Aphex EQF-2 Parametric EQ and EMG pickups so add those two things in for the extra 10%.

You can see he is plugged directly right into the MKIIC+ Reissue.....I have no idea what pickups in that SG. I did read in another clip post of his his 4x12 cabinet is a BV cab so it has Vintage 30's in it.

Again everyone is expecting the recorded processed tone in front of the amp. That clip is probably what the raw unprocessed amps sounded like in the studio. This is the exact same issues people run into when VH1 tone is discussed.

Here the kid is plugged straight into a 1981 2203 stack...
