If those are the only 2 choices I'd probably lean towards the Paul, but I'd actually pick neither.

Sticking with the same brands... For more classic & thrash metal I'd look for a Laney GH100L or TI. Going for more modern metal tones I'd check out a VH2 or D-Moll

Welcome to Rig-Talk Jermome

I see you are from Belfast so let's play a little game

Budget?
Genres? (what kind of metal and what kind of guitar)?
Home or Gigging?
New or Used?
Favorite bands/guitarists/tone?

Without that all I can say is that I never playing a Paul, I would say the Ironheart should work just fine. And Killswitch was/is using those Ironheart 60 combos for years now after metaling through 5150/Framus/Mesa/VHT/and on and on and on

Thank you

Budget is not a problem i just want the better amp

Genre 80s thrash and death metal using esp eclipse with emgs

Ill be using the amp at home

New

Im leaning towards the diezel but want to make sure its the right one

Thanks again

Do you have any suggestions thanks
For 80s thrash I would probably consider a Used Mesa Mark IV. Death Metal an ENGL Savage is a staple. Then there is super rare amps for Death Metal like a Megalith Beta or Gamma but those will be tough to find. If you want the Diezel route then I think a VH4 is better for your metal style then the Paul. There is also the whole lane of modded marshall style (Splawn, Gower, Ground Zero, Wizard, Headfirst, Hermannson). It really depends on how much you want to spend and if you want a more production style amp or the mod lane.

If budget isn't an option and you're looking for something better then that opens the doors to a lot of amps. Headfirst Alta and Ground Zero Hellion are my go to recommendations for hotrodded/modded Marshall. Alta is a multi channel with quintessential upper mid grind. Hellion has a similar grind with a bit of lower mid girth.

The new one I'm adding to my recommendations is one of the Modern series from SonicTone.

Other than that in no particular order
ENGL Savage or Invader, depending on which side you fall
Diezel VH4
Mesa Mark Series
Modded Mesa Recto
Any Modded Marshall style; basically pick your poison (Splawn, MGL, Lickliter, Friedman, etc.)
There's always a 5150/6505
Wizard MTL or MCII
The list goes on.

Give us a little more info like do you need clean, crunch, high gain? How many watts? Any particular features you want? That can help narrow the list.

Guys - he is in Belfast

But yeah, the Ironheart and Paul, although will get you into that territory - are not going to be best. Where will you be buying from? Why are you opposed to Used amps if you don't mind me asking? You will get a lot more bang for your buck AND often, better quality.

Larry Amplification for example, is in Germany but they are expensive, rare and have a 3-5 yr wait list for a new one.

Although I don't have direct experience, a Diezel Hagen or Engl Savage should be far superior :dunno:

I personally would stay away from the new Marshall stuff - but a Marshall JVM 210 would work.

Looks like there is a used Mesa Mark IIc+ and a 1985 Marshall JCM800 here:

Maybe go play and see. Best of luck.

Wont it be overkill for home use as paul is 45 watts and d-moll is 100 watts
No I don't think so. Diezels have some of the best master volumes on the market. Besides 45 watts is pretty ear shattering when you crank it up. I guess it depends on how quiet you're trying to play. But the Paul and D-Moll are sister amps in a way, the D-Moll more voiced for modern metal, and the Paul leans more towards vintage hard rock to clean tones.

Probally i should rename the thread to diezel paul vs diezel d-moll now as i im interested in both of them and not the laney

The D-Moll IME AB’ing them to me just sounded like a smaller, less robust, looser, not as good Herbert (like it’s little brother) and not really better for lower volumes either

I like some things about the Herbert’s, but a bit processed and smoother sounding than the more raw, organic, aggressive tones I generally prefer. For a powerful and low mid heavy amp like that I prefer the MI Audio Megalith Beta and early revision Bogner Uberschall’s and again some of the amps I listed earlier
