Scored an unusual vintage Marshall 4x12 cab

Haven't come across one of these before, apparently it's a 2069 model. Early-mid 70's, (closed) ply back, small checkboard cloth. Same width as a 1960 cab, similar depth, but a whopping 106cm tall (~42"). Interestingly, it has a rectangular port in the baffle. Not sure what the reasoning at the time was but keen to load this up and hear the results.

Anyone used one before, or seen this kind of design?

Maybe a vintage bass cab? Had a band member back in the 90’s that had a staggered marshall 4x12 bass cab.
Yeah, I'm thinking that this was a bass cab with that port in it.

Here's an old ad for one on Reverb -

Edit - Here's a blurb from the Marshall Forum -
MODEL 2069 - 120W, 4-12 in. speakers, tall extension cabinet designed for use with 100W Artist series, mfg. 1973-77.

Edit 2 - Apparently the Lerxt cab is modeled after one of these -

Gut never lies. I knew that cab was special. CA was my first Rush album and Geddy says it’s their best. I agree, Alex sounds amazing on it.

Ok yeah the Lifeson thing is interesting, cheers.

Bro, that’s amazing. Wall of sound/sea of tone vibes? What’s your take? Clips please!
I mean it looks super cool, but the verdict is out until it's loaded.

I'm thinking if that front port sounds odd I could plug it up, or make a new baffle. Would then be a sealed oversize oversized cab - might be interesting with the right speakers.

What are you thinking, speaker/impedance/wiring wise?

Nice score! Can't wait to hear it.
Unrelated but I tracked down a really old T75 with the vent in the back and it does sound great. I THANK you and your T75 loaded cab!
I'll load it up soon and report back, I think it'll be an interesting sound compared to a regular cab.

And I'm glad you found a nice T75 (I fixed your post). If you really want to use the B word, there will be pushback. Something about throwing V30's from glass houses...I forget the exact saying.

LOL. Point taken

Check for screw holes around the rectangular port. I’m positive that might have been for a horn which was common for stage cabinets during that era.

Make sure you duct tape your shirt down before firing that bad boy up because that puppy is gonna do more than flap your pant leg. Maybe get a safety harness so you don't get blown through the back wall Marty McFly style......

Congrats!

Cool cab; never saw one of those. Learned something new. I have seen/played through a late 60s 4x15 greenback cab though. Those are obviously a bit bigger as well.

Are you sure that’s not an old road case that Angus and Mal slept in during early tours? Looks like a bunk bed arrangement. The port is just an air hole but I’ve got bad news about what the “speaker holes” were used for.
