Anyone miss old eBay?

It all seemed pretty simple back in the 2000’s. I was in HS and always wanted a 5150 but couldn’t really afford it. So I’d buy it and just sell it when I needed the money back over and over again. But the newer sites like reverb and Facebook market place just don’t feel the same.
Now Reverb has all these fees, and scammers. Which I think is part of the internet in general. Also I remember you didn’t argue or haggle with the value of your gear. You set a price you listed it for 7 days and what it sells for is what it sells for. You put a reserve if you can’t handle it and let it ride.
Am I looking through rose colored glasses or do you guys still have fond memories of that time.
 
I miss it some. Had over 200 feedbacks before they made it where the seller couldn't leave feedback. That ended my eBay days. Nothing lasts forever.

Those were the days when you could get AMAZING deals on gear.

I scored both my MKIIC+ amps back in 2004.

Both my amps came in road cases when I got them.

I got my ‘84 60 watt combo for $900 shipped; and my Loaded ‘84 Bubinga/Wicker Simul-Class loaded combo for $1100 shipped.

If I recall, it used to be a viable strategy to sit in front of the computer and click the button to raise your bid right before the auction closed. My uncle even showed me a program that would do it for you, just watching the listing then bidding up at the last possible fraction of a second. Seems a lot different now. I still find some good deals though.
 
I bought a peavey wolfgang standard archtop in cherryburst for $900 on ebay back then. The neck had tons of birdseye and the guitar had mojo. I traded it for a splawn quick rod. I miss that guitar
 
I sold my Mark V 90 head on there a year or so ago. Apart from that I hadn’t listed anything on there for quite a while. In the last several years, I have bought re-furbed and upgraded MacBook pros off there for good prices. Usually get a few good years out of them as a DAW and even longer if you don’t care about eventually not being able to update certain things.
 
i still use ebay pretty much daily for non music stuff, there isnt as much music gear but i do still occasionally see something on there i dont see listed anywheres else so its worth the couple seconds its takes to check for something
 
After about 09 is turned into headaches to even make the listing, plus more fees, and a lot of scammers. I had so many no pays and attempted scams on music gear I just quit fooling with it. Legit bidders would be winning the bid then zero feedback buyers would outbid them and never pay. They can just make a new account after all. I remember tried to sell my VS J&H. A guy out bid a legit buyer for like 45 bucks on it and didn't pay. That kinda crap ended it for me as a seller. I still will use it as a buyer for japanese guitars and some other stuff if I find deals but I only sell on CL now.
 
Yea so I’m not the only one. It wasn’t no hey man my gear sells for price X so I won’t take under this number I came to based off what sold 5 years ago.
It’s like you gave everyone 7 days to put their offer in, that’s what it’s worth.
 
The auctions were fun. Bidding in that last 15 seconds could be heart stopping when the page refreshed and you won.

I would regularly look for auctions that ended on a special night like the Superbowl or New Years Eve, Christmas, etc…there were deals to be had because there would be few last minute bids. People would create a 5 day or 7 day auction without realizing when it ended I guess. I remember winning a brand new 2x12 Avatar cab with 2 V30’s for about $125 shipped once.

I miss old everything. Especially amp forums.

Bring back the old ways of Harmony Central.
Everything is turning into capitalism. Either for sponsors. To cater to People who cry and tap "report" everytime they exhale.

And definitely, the glory days of REVERB, EBAY, AND FREEDOM OF SHIT POSTING... It's all falling to the capitalist ideals and systems.

More money + More money = Less fun in the end.
Like how they took the fun looking fast food places and turned them into clinical boxes. Bland and tasteless, just like the food!

Eberything that was once good, is slowly becoming a shadow of its former self. And it always leads back to money, and whining.


Definitely wish we could take it on back about 15-20 years across the entire spectrum. The internet is just ad and revenue generation at this point in time. 💯
