Anyone miss old eBay?

I haven't used Ebay regularly in a long time. Back in the day, I got a lot of really great deals on gear, quite often late at night while inebriated. :ROFLMAO:

I got my 5150 block letter for $400, a Randall RGT100 for $200, and a ton of other stuff.

You just don't see those kinda deals anymore.

Ya I miss it too. Now I have no idea where I should look for gear?? it's been years since I picked up something new that hasn't been from the local guitar shop, and their prices are insanely bad. Don't know why I even bother??

I used to have a a couple Randall rg100es heads (i've owned about half a dozen of them over the years), a rg100ht, a furman pq3, mxr 6 band, the whole Dimebag live rig really cheap. Got those heads in the $200 - $300 range, now I see them selling upwards of a $1,000. Insane. Wish I would have kept them all and sold them now.

Price is the result of supply and demand, so perhaps there are more guitarists and/or less gear. But I also think the used market for everything is more relevant than it used to be. People want top dollar for whatever they are trying to sell, and people look to used as a practical alternative for higher priced items like music equipment. And widespread adoption of the internet for trading has created a vibrant national used market whereas it used to be clunky — remember the classified sections?

Yes, used to be able to find insane deals on obscure gear

These days everyone knows what they have and know what they can charge for it lol

It seems like more and more sellers are pricing their gear to recoup their original cost AND their fees. Then when you factor in sales tax and the higher cost of shipping, there just aren't the deals there used to be. People want to buy shit, use it for a while, and then flip it, and still get 100% of their money out of it, and that's not always realistic.

You almost have to be a retailer, buying at wholesale cost to be able to price things in a way that's reasonable. That's kinda what brick-and-mortars wanted the whole time by requiring internet sales tax. These have always been commercial transactions on commercial platforms, but years or not paying sales tax probably set expectations that felt more like private sales.

I certainly miss the old EBAY, I bought and sold many things on there, and then started using Reverb also, which was great at the time. I assume you know EBay is still there, and you are probably not liking how it is all stores etc. What I think killed things for me, was more the cost of shipping which is so much more that it was in the early to early teen 2000's. That makes it almost impossible to do it anymore. I had a nice little part time business buying and selling back in the day. Almost impossible now.....plus anything over $600 and you have to file a sale on your taxes.
