everytime.

so, I got all the amps I wanted or so I thought.

then someone has to go post about a JCM 900 SLX, an amp I had totally forgotten about. Never really liked the JCM 900, but the SLX was different.

So like an idiot I go look for vids on YT, next thing I know I'm looking for one, next thing I know I find one, next thing I know I make an offer; next thing I know offer accepted...

100W, 5881 power tubes. Now I just hope UPS / FedEx don't perform unwanted modifications on its' way to me.

Congrats on punishing your wallet with more material items. Once you have your boat you are gonna have plenty of anchors starting with that organ collection, lol. You have to lay the blame on @ChuggNorris . Isn't he the big SLX deezel nutz guy? He'll love this. Hopefully he rode out the storm up there ok cause I haven't seen him here in a couple days. Also when do I get pics of the repaired Super Twin? I'm not letting that go.

as I've posted before, I'm accumulating gear while still working, to enjoy now and in retirement, and getting my other toys too.

chugg isn't completely wrong, though plexi is still my fav Marshall.

I did sell my '62 Hammond A-102 and matching Leslie 142, while it was fully working now, servicing would become a challenge, and they're not easy to move to get to the shop...the nearest tonewheel organ repair is over 3 hours away...in fact finding an amp tech around here is impossible, nearest is about a 2 hour drive away, and becoming an amp tech isn't high on my to do list, and why my Super Twin taunts me every day wondering why it's not restored yet...

I have my hardware keyboards covered as well: workstation, arranger, organs, piano, synths, modular synths.

The good news is I think I finally have my Marshall GAS covered with the inbound SLX to add to my 1959x, JVM410H, DSL40CR, Origin 50C and 50H, and even the Engl Artist Edition 100 is marshallesque going into higher gain tones if I feel the need. Mesa JP-2C and Super Twin for non-Marshall amps.

:dunno:

That's funny, because Chugg was talking about his not too long ago, and I was thinking I might want to try one since I really loved my 900 back when. I swear half the gear you get I have on my list, too :ROFLMAO:

that's it! people start talking about gear I forgot about; and then next thing I know, I own it.

Almost happened with a few of the synergy discussions, Mesa Mark V / Mark VII discussions, Headfirst Alta 100 Rev2, probably a few more discussions I'm thankful I've forgotten...

I'm starting a #blameChuggSLX hashtag.

I played a SLX for 6 years as my main gain amp, up until last year. They are a fine amp, and have useable Marshall tones. But compared to a 2203/2204/05/10and even a DSL, they lack a lot. Still cool amps but, I moved on.

Not looking for high gain from the SLX, just more than a plexi, JMP and 800 and less than a DSL.

My JVM and Engl, not to mention JP-2C, can get more gain than I regularly use.

Then there's the Jubilee I've been trying to avoid...

Are they just sterile? I'm more concerned about drop tune and maintaining note definition. I probably won't ever buy one anyways, mostly was just reminiscing to myself about my 900. Which I liked better than my 2000 that I also had at the time. I dunno. I'm not a tone chaser, really. I want mostly just amps that sound different than what I already have, anyways. I don't think the slx is enough for me to go on a hunt for. I want an evil pumpkin, but can't take the forum cred hit :ROFLMAO:

Which ENGL do you have? I want a fireball 100 after playing one, but not sure even which model/generation it was that I played.

They aren't a modern sounding amp themselves. You can do thrash and rock, but even for that they aren't as "big" sounding as an 800. I find the DSL even a better choice for heavier music, especially with drop tuning. Like I said, I don't hate the amp...if I played punk or early thrash with a boost I can see it working out. I prefer a fuller and lower gain tone, even in Marshalls .

Congrats. Never played one of these. Hope it lands safely
