Real cab or IR? Tech death riff

That sounds better. Sounds a little more ir or sim - esque due to scratchiness on the attack. So I'll go with that.

I'm not saying irs are bad, I bought a ton and would love for it to be just plug and play. The best thing I did for mine was to sweep for frequency peaks (ie at like 4k) and pull them out + an aggressive low pass on the high end. This made it sound more like the real thing.

Line outs > analog pre > irs seems to sound good in a lot of clips I've heard from other people. Heavier multi-tracked rhythm guitars are most forgiving with them and can sound really really good. My problem was after I did all that a lazily mic'd cab sounded better and it saved me work.

If the ir's sounded better I'd go with those. Export settings are important too...and line outs...and di box choice...
Yeah I honestly think I just picked the second take harder.

Everyone’s got a different process for guitars for sure. I typically notch out the whistles shit, then add 4k back in with an ssl style. My high and low passing are usually 65-75 hz and 12k-11k. I don’t really like just cutting everything. I know the nail the mix guys started this trend at cutting everything off below 100… then dip the shit out of it at 250. Drives me crazy. Make shit sound weak.

No way to tell listening through an iPad or phone as they affect the sound. What I will say is when I’m in a room with miked cabinet thru a monitor vs an ox box, it’s clear as day.

Dude EVERYONE can tell, OBVIOUSLY all the golden ears are gonna tell you why it’s one or the other and how they can always tell….

Actually, what’s going to happen is, this thread will die, and sink to the bottom, because those that think they can tell never put their money where their mouth is.
Dude, can't you hear the bloom? The sweetness? The harmonic complexity?

You can totally tell the gear used here isn't over 30 years old.

I bet the IR's were made with Chinese gear, even.

On a serious note, the tone is cool! Playing could've been a tiny bit tighter at parts, but for a quick clip, it sounds great! :)
