Thinking about getting another 4x12 cab. Need opinions.

I currently have an Orange PPC 412. I really like the cabinet but I'm thinking of adding another 4x12 for the stable. The Orange has the stock V 30's, and it plays well through my Mark amps and KSR colossus. However, I have a 6505, Silver Jubilee, 5153 el34 50 watt that I think may sound better if I had another 4x12 with a different speaker setup. What 4x12 would you recommend for this or am I nuts for considering getting another 4x12?

I am not a 4x12 guy anymore due to two hernia surgeries bit love the sound of 4x12s and if not having to move it often, agree the 5150-III 4x12 would sound killer and be affordable.
That's what I think I'm going to look for. Maybe during black Friday sales, I can score a deal on one. BTW, this cabinet as well as my Orange will be staying in my basement. Believe me, I have a 2x12 EVH cabinet at my buddy's house and that's as big as I want to be moving around as well.

Both my 4x12’s have v30’s so I’m in the same boat. Get a Marshall cab with 75’s…honestly though both my cabs sound different even though they both have 30”s. One is an avatar with hellatones (?), and the other is a Marshall mode 4.

For something different and also cool I'd say a Fryette Fatbottom or Engl XXL. Even if you use V30's in them they should sound quite different, but may as well try something else in them. I heard some good things also about the Mojotone Grand Canyon, but haven't tried one yet

If you’re looking at new the EVH is a good option. It will take some time to break in tho. I have 13 cabs. My favorite by far is my Avatar with V30’s and T75’s.
It doesn’t seem like Avatar sells 4x12’s anymore. Their website only had 2x12’s and 1x12’s last I looked. I had one of their traditional 4x12’s that they always sold for cheap back in the day with a combo of V30’s and G12H30’s and it was a pretty bright/stiff sounding cab. Also one of the heaviest goddamn cabs I’ve ever had despite looking kind of compact.

I had no idea that the avatar’s were as good as they are. It is excellent. Sounds better than my Marshall. It’s also in a roadcase so not sure if that helps or not.

They dont, sadly. I would be buying some of their contemporary 412s now if they still offered them.

I have been looking at possibly getting an unloaded cab from StageCraft or Sourmash. Those are typical specs though, not oversized like the Avatar was.

I think the Recto OS cabs are standard for a reason. They can also be found easily.

I haven't had much experience with 4x12s.but my Emperor 4x12 is also pretty good sounding with certain amps. I really like it with my Savage 120.

It took years to break in.

I wouldn't overthink it too much. You have the V30 thing covered so pick up a Greenback loaded cab and call it a day. I have a 1960BX and an EVH 4x12 currently. I love them both but the EVH cab is just a touch smoother sounding.

Yeah I had mine for like 5-6 years. I didn’t hate it or anything, it was just a very up front and tight kind of sound. It recorded pretty well actually but in the room compared to a good 1960 style cab or a Mesa it seemed thin and bright. I have no idea why it was so heavy, I swear it was harder to move around than the oversized Mesa.

Also I don’t like mixing speakers in general and I don’t think a G12H30 and V30 combo is good in particular. I found it kind of hard to EQ some amps.

I came in to say Avatar as well but that's covered.

A used greenback cab would be sweet.

Or a used Mesa Traditional with the Mesa V30's but may be too close to what you already have.
