Best OD for a Dual Rectifier?

I have EQ and level set low and still don't care for what it is doing to the mids, and the lows are not necessarily tighter - which is what I'm going for obviously.
The DT is my favourite pedal by far with a Recto. Sounds like you haven't had any luck with it - and you may never - but see if this helps as I'm with Green on this.

The DT is pretty transparent when set at these marks (not the knob setting). So approximately Level 6:00, High 7:00, Low 10:00 and TC mode. It might vary pedal to pedal, but this should be essentially flat both gain and EQ wise.

Try these settings - you shouldn't be hearing a difference when switched in and out. If you do, I suspect there's an issue somewhere.

Assuming you can set it up flat like this - try decreasing Low slowly from 10:00 whilst thumping the low string. If you can't hear the amp getting tighter then there's probably something funky going on. If you increase Level a little as the Lows come down, you should get to the point of tighter lows with added saturation but little other tonal change. I've assumed this is what you're going for, as you mentioned transparency. If this is indeed your goal then there's no way a Bad Monkey or TS type can beat the DT.

Wayne’s screamer is perfect. His Chiron is actually awesome as well. Of course I have heard nothing but great things about that dirty tree as well. For me the screamer is my go to. It also cured my erectile dysfunction.

Seems most pro guys mostly use Maxon OD808's as the Maxons just pair well with the Dual Recto's. I would check out the Maxon ST-9 Pro+, I got one and it works great with my Marshalls and my Splawn modded 2203. I picked one up after Killertone's video and I was not disappointed!:2thumbsup:

I would say if you are going for rock/hard rock tones then the OD808 is your pedal...if you want metal super chugs then the ST9 Pro+ might be the one. That said I really liked my reissue Maxon OD808 so much I bought another when I sold my first one thinking I could do better.

Here's a Rivera K-Tre which is low end heavy and kinda loose like Dual Recto and Jon Donias used a Maxon OD808.

The gold leader for me with my Revision F was the Fortin Grind.
Channel 2 red, Fortin Grind 11:30 on the adjuster,
LPC = incomprehensible bliss.
Like I felt f’n guilty it sounded so good.
Kinda turned the DR into a morphed MKIV
channel 3🤘🏻.

^ when I see hotness my nads actually drop, that's where the action is as you get older

PS: I was hoping to get 27 recommendations for the same OD pedal

Now I have a rabbit hole

Thanks. Like, @TheGreatGreen suggested I will mess with these settings a bit. I did watch your vid BTW @ZEN Amps

HEY - I just fuckin realized the pots on this DT are not set normal. The sweep that is. I was EQing to my eyes and what people were saying online.

That said, @TheGreatGreen - you mentioned 3pm o'clock earlier right? There is no 3:00  Did you mean 3 out of 10?

To me it heavily depends on what guitar/pickup I am using.

Some of my favorites are mentioned in this thread though, OD808, SD-1, TC Pre, Buxom, Green Rhino, Ice Scream, M77, Metal Zone.

I gave those settings with the "dead zones" of the knobs facing downward like how most pedals work. I meant 3:00 and 9:00 with the knobs oriented like that. The pedal is just about flat with the Bass set to 3:00 meaning roughly 8 out of 10, and the Treble set to 9:00 meaning roughly 2 out of 10.

The pedal is designed like that so you can cut the bass really hard and boost the treble really hard. You can also boost low end and cut treble, but only by a relatively small amount from neutral.

The Maxon OD 808 sounded great with mine when I had it. I also had a modified Boss EQ in the loop. The combo of the OD and EQ was magic with the Dual Recto.
That's my go to overdrive, the maxon od808. Tightens the lows the perfect amount and doesn't thin it out like the sd-1 can sometimes do. I just go Level cranked, drive at 0, tone at about 1 o'clock, those are my settings with pretty much any amp I use it with. Not saying the sd-1 is a bad pedal, it ain't, it's a good sounding pedal with some amps, you might actually like it with a Dual Rectifier.

E Standard Thrash/Death Metal - Maxon OD808. Adds in a little bit of mids that you like to see when scooping Mesa amps.

C or B Standard Melodic Death Metal - 33 Types. Adds a lot of aggression and top end to take out the muddiness of low tunings.

I have a ton of boosts, at least half of them modded tubescreamers of some stripe, and I always come back to a stock TS9 with my recto, for me it’s just the best boost for that amp (and my guitars, playing, etc).

I have an original tc integrated preamp as well as a couple clones I’ve built over the years, I used to be a huge fan of the tc pre boosting a recto sound but over the last two years or so I’ve kinda grown to dislike the clankiness.

you try the pedal with the "correct" orientation yet? I gotta admit, this pedal is in a drawer right now, and I'm feeling a bit retarded.

I was going to suggest the Screamer ... but he mentioned trying a bunch of TS variants .... I honestly have only played a few Rec's in my time ..... I learned early on it wasn't a boost I was looking for .... it was a Mark series ... with that said I've heard some glorious boosted rec tones ....
usually you want something that has that " mid hump " .... to combat the flubba dubb in the bass on the rec ....

Friedman's Buxom boost is another I'd try .... it has the EQ you can take in and out of the circuit ...

anything you can use to dump some mids into the front end of the rec ....

maybe the up and coming Griffin Analog " Rabbit Hole Drive "
I was going to suggest the Buxom Boost too.

With dirty 3 set the gate at its tightest . Then you’re good . Super tight as a my nads when seeing a hot girl
Yeah - gate set to tight already or fast attack whatever it is called

No shit right? I was looking at the knobs as if oriented to the printed letters. Will start all over again tomorrow with these recommendations.

Good to see you again Eric. Hope you hang a bit with us
