Best OD for a Dual Rectifier?

Rarely discussed, but I've always wanted to try Amptweaker ( specifically Tight Drive Jr. ) with my Rectos.

Anyone here have experience with this line of pedals? The dude ( James Brown ) does have some good background after all. lol
 
I only like the tc side of the dirty tree. For my use the full tone-stack is essential.
For me, which boost to choose will depend on which guitar/pickups I'm using and which Rectifier is on top of which cab, and even which mode on which channel and what settings it's running. For example I might go with a cleaner boost when using a guitar with emgs, and a more typical ts when using passives.
 
The DT set the bass where it just barely comes on.
I didn't like the Amptweaker stuff with the Rectifier.

I agree with some of the others....your probably never find anything better than a regular TS9 circuit. It just sounds right with the Rectifier.

I prefer having a HPF so you can shape the bass.

The KHDK Ghoulscreamer is a stock 808 with all the typical mods on it.
 
I think SD-1's get along with Rectos great.

For me, it's either SD-1, Zakk Wylde OD, or a Tube Screamer that has the ability to cut more low-end than a stock 808 does for a Recto.
 
I like what the screamer style circuit does, my favorite of which is the Lichtlaerm King in Yellow. Very powerful pedal with great tone. If you want the maxon or 808 style the Ibanez mini 808 is damn good too, 99.99% of the maxon tone.

But seriously….I like my Naga Viper for the Tremoverb as it has a knob for adjusting how much low end it will retain when boosting. So you can really tailor how thin or thick the “treble boost” is depending on your amps settings. Magic for making vintage Orange tighter and more aggressive.

The Rev F I had here sounded great with an OD808 and a Mesa Cleo, basically a Klone. The Cleo was especially great with the 7 string, keeping some low end in tact, while tightening up the sound and giving it plenty of cut.

I like the ST9 pro+ because you can dial in how aggressive you want your mids and highs in the boosted tone plus you get some more headroom if you run it on the 18V selection. It really is a great pedal especially for that super tight chug factor and that sounds like what 311Splawndude is wanting by his own admission.

The regular Maxon OD808 or the OD808 extreme would sound great but the extra control the ST9 proplus gives is worth it because it also works well wiht Marshall amps as well IMHO.:2thumbsup:

It is a bit of a rabbit hole as you all know. Special thanks to @ZEN Amps for the settings. Yeah - I was way off of that :lol:

I am also now interested in trying the Maxon ST-9, along with some of the other suggestions. I may put the Koko Boost up for Trade if anyone wants to try it. Just too much for my needs. Again, could be loser error, so I may have to get it back out of the box. I got that pedal from @maddnotez and the Pepers Dirty Tree from @AmpliFIRE.

So I did a little test of all 3 at once (below). With those new Dirty Tree settings I am much happier with it now. I can see why people like it with down-tuned stuff. Seems to tighten and add a bit of bounce if that is possible. I also fell back in love with the SD-1. Surprisingly, my Bad Monkey sounded worse in my test, but usually it is just glorious.

I'm wondering if having the Boss last in that (test) chain would make a difference (buffered) vs first? ?

Anywho - here is my "please ignore my crappy playing and tone" disclaimer. I just tried to knock out some bar chords to keep it simple. That, and I'm still somewhat new to all of this :D

1 - no boost
2 - Bad Monkey
3 - Pepper DT
4 - SD-1
5 - no boost

FWIW the key for boosting Rectos is to not run the gain past noonish. EQ is pretty workable depending on where the presence is, not too high. OD808x works great, TS808, etc. I have a Triple Rec coming soon and hope to experiment with a few new boosts I haven't tried on Rectos.

Agreed. I don’t go past 1 oclock on the gain. There really isn’t THAT much gain in a recto, but combine that with the boost and it’s right where I like it in terms of saturation

The dirty tree (and other tc pre inspired boosts) have a ton of clean output on tap, and absolutely will clip any buffered pedals after them, unless you keep the volume not very high. I would run it last, unless you want to run a true bypass looper.

the MultiWatt and Rev F are close in gain and aggression (I had to run the MW in modern mode to compete with the F.)
