ONE of a kind custom explorer

ouch! I just picked up the bargain basement version. Not sure if it's a keeper yet. Gotta take it to my tech for the benediction.

That headstock is dangerously close to a Ken Lawrence, hah. But if you're going to be influenced by another builder, you could do a lot worse.

Cool looking guitar.

Luthier somehow got a permission for direct copy even, he said it here on the forum.
He got permission for a short time till ken removed the permission, he can only finish the guitars he started before ken removed the permission. The agreement didnt last very long. I personally would rather buy a used KL or just order one from ken when the waiting list opens up again, this guy charges too much for a copy of KL

I mean anyone would take a Ken Lawrence ahead of any replica/tributes.

And his list is closed now? Sad. Fucking sad to be broke.

Thank you for giving info on license being revoked. Posting in KL owners group is wild 😂

Most replicas tend to be cheaper but this guy charges Ken lawrence prices, and hes gotta pay ken for licensing for using the headstock shape legally, but still seems like alot for a replica or inspired by.

What are KLs going for these days? I paid $4400 back in ‘15 with a flight case shipped.
I spoke to ken earlier this year because i wanted some suggestions on which type wax to use on the finish, and while talking about that i also asked what his prices are these days, and its around 12k for a explorer with inlays and a hardshell case.

Hey man, do you still have the cocobolo KL i sold you years ago, that was a nice sounding guitar, it was my first KL and started my addiction hahah.

Its like 8500 to 9k without inlays, then add 2500 to 3k for a inlay, plus hardshell case and shipping. Ken told me he builds around 12 explorers a year. They are great guitars and the craftsmanship is amazing, but yeah they are pricey. But i would still rather pay that kinda money for ken to build it than some dude building copys for similar prices or more.

Just to put things in perspective, I can buy a cheap vacation home in MS for that kinda money.

There's only one Explorer made in my world and that would be from Gibson having Gibson on the headstock ! all the rest are cheap or not so cheap imitations . It's like owning a Honda Rebel when you wanted a Harley .

Now back to our regularly scheduled program !!

Thank You ---Good night !!

Ofc I would love a KL and ofc I wouldn’t consider a copy ever in my life, it’s just me saying fuck poor life.

ESP Explorers too. I wanted one since I was a kid, that I seen on a CD cover of James with a white one. That was before I got my forst guitar, and I went local Yamaha dostributor shop with that cover in hand with no luck. I double down on it, fuck life.
